32 Winds is a small family established winery, committed to making exceptional wines, located in Dry Creek Valley two miles from the Healdsburg Plaza. The winery and tasting room is nestled alongside the Dry Creek stream, a spawning preserve for Coho salmon and Steelhead trout.
They produce approximately 2500 cases per year of award winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet and Zinfandel from hand selected vineyards in the AVA's of West Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley, Napa Valley, and Dry Creek Valley. The wines have received recognition (and 90+ ratings) in Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, and are served in fine restaurants, luxury resorts, and clubs from Santa Rosa to New York City.
Winery operations are spearheaded by owner Ed Mascarin and by winemaker Ehren Jordan. Sherry Harkins, joined their small team some years back and handles, well, basically anything that comes her way! Sherry, along with her crew, look forward to sharing their 32 Winds experience with you while in Sonoma County. You will find the winery down a dirt road, nestled behind 8 acres of vineyards, and surrounded by lush gardens and towering walnut trees. Add to all that, the bocce court, picnic grounds, and deck overlooking the "not so dry" Dry Creek and you will want to stay there for hours.
THE WINES
2012 Chardonnay, Hudson Vineyard, Carneros
The Hudson Vineyard is located in the rolling hills of Carneros, adjacent to the San Pablo Bay. The proximity to the fog and breezes from the bay makes the climate in Los Carneros cooler than surrounding areas, the perfect environment in which to grow Chardonnay. The vineyard has rocky well-drained soils that are planted to the shy-bearing heritage shot Wente clone.
The grapes were hand harvested and whole-cluster pressed into French oak barrels, approximately 40% of which were new. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in the barrel, and the resultant wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered in order to handle it as minimally as possible.
Score: 92 Opening with a burst of intense, vibrant pear, peach and cedary oak, this maintains its focus and balance. Turns elegant and refined on the finish, providing a graceful aftertaste. Drink now through 2019. 320 cases made. –JL
2012 Chardonnay, Spinnaker, Sonoma Coast
The fruit for the 2012 Spinnaker Chardonnay was sourced from Olivet Lane, and Ulises Valdez’s Lucky Wells Vineyard. The fruit was hand-harvested, de-stemmed, crushed and transferred to French oak barrels, approximately 30% of which were new. It was aged on the lees for 11 months with occasional battonage. The 2012 Chardonnay Spinnaker displays flavors and aromas of Granny Smith apples, pears, quince, lemon curd and vanilla.
Score: 92 Offers generous layers of ripe fig, apricot, citrus peel flavors, with measured smoky, toasty oak. Most impressive for the sweet, ripe fruit flavors. Drink now. 442 cases made. –JL
2011 Chardonnay, Lucky Well UV, Sonoma Coast
The Lucky Well Vineyard was planted in the fall of 2007 by Ulises Valdez (hence the "UV" in the wine's name) to Ehren Jordan's specifications.
The vineyard itself lies in the rolling hills 3 miles to the north of Occidental and just a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean on the "true" Sonoma Coast. The vineyard is ideally located above the fog line to maximize sunlight for ripening, but in a cool enough location to ensure a long growing season - the perfect environment for Chardonnay. It is an organically dry-farmed vineyard with tightly planted vines, planted to the shot-Wente clone.
The nose shows subtle, elegant aromas of fresh Fuji apple, Meyer lemon rind, jasmine and honeysuckle. There is mild salinity and crushed oyster shell minerality with hints of white pepper and pear on the back. On the palate a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar spice, vanilla, high toned fruit but balanced throughout, carried through with hints of butter and just the right amount of French oak.
2010 Pinot Noir, Hirsch Vineyard, Sonoma Coast
The Hirsch Vineyard is widely recognized as one of the premier vineyards for Pinot grapes in the Americas. Its location on a rugged ridge close to the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 1500 feet, gives the grapes an exposure to an extreme swing of climates annually - from 80 inches of rain in the winter months to desert like dryness in the summer. The high elevation vineyard sees approximately 14 hours of sun versus 10 hours at below the fogline, thus allowing long hours of unmitigated sunlight late in the season when tannins are evolving.
The 2010 Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir displays flavors and aromas of wild raspberries, red cherries, kirsch, nutmeg and allspice. There is great natural acidity combined with soft, silky tannins.

The vineyard is ideally located above the fog line to maximize sunlight for ripening, but in a cool enough location to ensure a long growing season - prime for both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals. It is an organically dry-farmed vineyard with tightly planted vines, their vines are planted to Pommard & Swan clones. This is a beautiful dense garnet rose color with lovely pink rim variation.
The nose is pretty with floral notes of rose and violet; just absolutely beautiful, with aromatics of sweet fruit and cola spice. On the palate the cola spice carries through and is joined by raspberry and attractive notes of cherry pie, baked cranberry and blackberry cobbler. The finish is vibrant and focused due to its bright acidity. Delicious!
2010 Pinot Noir, Maestro, Sonoma Coast
This fruit source is the 9-year-old organically farmed Sonoma Stage vineyard, located at the southern tip of the Sonoma Coast Appellation. This vineyard is organically farmed and planted to the heritage clones of Swan and Calera. The grapes were hand-harvested, de-stemmed and transferred to open top fermenters. With manual daily punch-downs the grapes went through alcoholic and malolactic fermentation using native yeasts. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, 35-40% of which were new, for 11 months.
The 2010 Maestro Pinot Noir displays notes and flavors of sous bois, sour cherries, black raspberries, and truffles and finishes with lovely silky tannins.
