32 WINDS WINE OFFER

32 Winds is a small family established winery, committed to making exceptional wines, located in Dry Creek Valley two miles from the Healdsburg Plaza. The winery and tasting room is nestled alongside the Dry Creek stream, a spawning preserve for Coho salmon and Steelhead trout.

The symbol reflects the 32 points of the nautical compasses used by the first adventurers and explorers seeking the finest flavors and experiences the world had to offer...they continue that tradition with all they do today.

They produce approximately 2500 cases per year of award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet and Zinfandel from hand-selected vineyards in the AVA's of West Sonoma Coast, Russian River Valley, Napa Valley, and Dry Creek Valley. The wines have received recognition (and 90+ ratings) in Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, and are served in fine restaurants, luxury resorts, and clubs from Santa Rosa to New York City.

Winery operations are spearheaded by owner and Mayacama Vintner Member Ed Mascarin and winemaker Matt Taylor. Sherry Harkins joined their small team some years back and handles, well, basically anything that comes her way! Sherry, along with her crew, look forward to sharing the 32 Winds experience with you while in Sonoma County. You will find 32 Winds down a dirt road, nestled behind 8 acres of vineyards, and surrounded by lush gardens and towering walnut trees.

Winemaker Matt Taylor recently joined the team and is well known for his special talents, especially with Pinot Noir. Matt spent many years at Araujo, producing some of Napa Valley’s great Cabernet. You will enjoy the wines he has crafted from start to finish starting with the 2014 vintage. Wine made before 2014 were made by Ehren Jordan of Failla fame.

Two of 32 Winds’ wines will be featured in our grill on the by the glass list, giving our members a chance to try these great wines prior to placing their retail order…a practice that will accompany all future Retail offers.

THE WINES

2016 Sauvignon Blanc: Dry Creek Valley
The area is famous for its fertile soil, perfect climate and geography for growing world-class grapes. The wine spent five months, split into three different vessels - stainless steel tank, neutral French oak, and concrete egg, giving the finished wine a beautiful, almost savory mouthfeel.

Tasting Notes: In the glass, aromas of lemon & lime lead into beautiful flavors of melon and kiwi on the mid-palate, and a hint of floral spice toward the finish. This Sauvignon Blanc is driven by its firm acidity, but it also has an interesting salinity to balance the ample fruit of the outstanding vintage.

2013 Chardonnay, Spinnaker, Russian River Valley
The fruit for the 2013 Spinnaker is sourced primarily from a vineyard on Olivet Road in the heart of Russian River Valley. The second smaller vineyard is located about 10 miles to the west and typifies the hearty, crisp and smooth flavors of the Sonoma Coast...the best of both worlds.

Tasting Notes: The 2013 Spinnaker Chardonnay displays flavors and aromas of Granny Smith apples, pears, quince, lemon curd and vanilla. It also possesses our trademark vibrant acidity and lovely textural mouthfeel.

2012 Pinot Noir, Lucky Well UV, Sonoma Coast
The vineyard itself lies in the rolling hills approximately 3 miles to the north of Occidental and just a few miles inland from the Pacific Ocean on the "true" Sonoma Coast. The vineyard is ideally located above the fog line to maximize sunlight for ripening, but in a cool enough location to ensure a long growing season - prime for Pinot Noir. It is an organically dry-farmed vineyard with tightly planted vines, using Pommard & Swan clones. This is a beautiful dense garnet rose color with lovely pink rim variation. This vineyard was planted and is managed by Ulises Valdez, one of the area’s top vineyard managers.

Tasting Notes: This wine begins with raspberry and warming notes of cherry pie, baked cranberry and blackberry cobbler. The finish is vibrant and focused due to its bright acidity. Delicious!

2012 Pinot Noir, Maestro, Russian River Valley
The fruit comes from 2 beautifully managed vineyards in the premier Pinot-growing region of Sonoma County. The vineyards are organically farmed and planted to the heritage clones of Swan and Calera. The grapes were hand-harvested, de-stemmed and transferred to open top fermenters with daily manual punch-downs.

Tasting Notes: This wine is a gorgeous garnet color with an earthy meatiness on the nose. Spicy berry welcomes you with sweet juicy Santa Rosa plum sliding in along with dark Hudson cherry and ripe strawberry. Hints of clove and anise roll throughout from first taste to silky finish. You can sense its age worthiness based on the balanced youthfulness of the exuberant fruit, giving it all the elements for yet, even more, complexity evolving - very unique for a Russian River Pinot Noir.

2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Diamond Mountain District, Napa Valley
The 2010 Cabernet is made from a single vineyard atop Diamond Mountain in northern Napa Valley. The vineyard is over 30 years old and consequently does not produce a high volume of fruit; instead the lower yielding vines produce much more concentrated, powerful intense fruit, exactly what you need for a great cabernet. The grapes were hand-harvested in the middle of October, de-stemmed and transferred to closed-top fermenters, where the skins and juice remained in contact for an extended maceration.

Tasting notes: The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon displays flavors and aromas of black cherries, espresso, black currants, cassis and dark cocoa. It has fine, well integrated tannins, a great mineral backbone and nice bright acidity.

2014 Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley
Dry Creek Valley AVA in Sonoma County is known for its fine Zinfandels - and this single vineyard Zin is no exception. With its unique blend of soil, geography and climate, this region lives up to its reputation for growing some of the finest Zinfandel grapes in the world.

Tasting notes: The 2014 Zinfandel has a dense purple color that yields notes of ripe raspberries with hints of cream and vanilla. On the palate, it demonstrates a complex mix of sweet creme brûlée and smoky BBQ spices with undertones of oak and bourbon. The fine barrel tannins create full-bodied, gripping mouth feel with a long finish.
