ANDREW BLACK NAMED HEAD PROFESSIONAL AT
BURLINGAME COUNTRY CLUB
We’re pleased to announce that Mayacama First Assistant Golf Professional Andrew Black has been named Head Golf Professional at Burlingame Country Club. Andrew replaces PGA Professional Ashley Marsay, who recently accepted the Head Golf Professional position at San Francisco Golf Club.
Andrew is the fifth Golf Professional from Mayacama Golf Club to move into a Head Professional position, joining Brian Paul (The Club at Kukui’ula in Hawaii), John McMullen (Hillcrest Country Club in Beverly Hills), Eric Steindell (Wianno Golf Club in Massachusetts), and Chapman Dundas (Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club). “We’re thrilled for Andrew” said Mayacama Head Professional Ted Antonopoulos. “This is what you hope for, that our Golf Professionals spend quality time at Mayacama in hopes of preparing them for the next level. And I can think of no better fit for Andrew than Burlingame Country Club.”
Indeed, Burlingame has a storied history. It’s the oldest Club west of the Mississippi River still in operation today. Founded in 1893, it was the first established Country Club to offer golf in California. Andrew will become only the 8th Golf Professional in the 124 year history of Burlingame Country Club. The Club underwent an extensive search prior to naming Andrew as their new Professional. The vacancy at Burlingame CC attracted a large number of qualified candidates as one would expect. After conducting several on-site interviews, the Search Committee unanimously recommended Andrew and the Club’s Board of Governors approved the selection.
Andrew first came to Mayacama as an intern from the Professional Golf Management Program at Clemson University. After two successful internships at Mayacama, Andrew graduated and then immediately joined our Professional Staff on a full time basis in March of 2009, most recently serving as our First Assistant Golf Professional for the past three years. “I cannot thank everyone at Mayacama enough for providing me with such a great environment to be a Golf Professional for the past 8 years.” said Black. “I am so lucky to have been able to start my career here and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to build relationships with every one of you.”
It will be a busy two months for Andrew. He and his fiancé Stephanie are to be married this Friday in Nags Head, North Carolina, and Andrew will begin his new position at Burlingame on August 1st. He will remain at Mayacama until July 21.
Please join us in congratulating Andrew and Stephanie as they continue their journey together in life and in the game of golf!
