Spring is here!

We are so excited to see sunny days! We had a very very wet winter with a record breaking amount of rain this year so the warm sun is truly welcomed. The golf season started with a sold out St. Patrick's Day Four Ball Tournament that was a roaring success! The bagpiper was piping, the Guinness was flowing, and the golf balls were soaring. It is a Club favorite for members and employees alike. We thank everyone who attended and made it another great St. Patrick's Day for the books!

Easter is right around the corner, so be sure to sign up for our Brunch and the Easter Egg Hunt. We expect beautiful weather and of course a visit from the Easter Bunny! ... And it seems that once the candy filled eggs are finally cleared off the driving range, we "hop" right into the All Vintner Pour and Mother's Day Brunch. It is one of the most highly anticipated weekends of the year and we cannot wait to see all of you!

Vineyard 7 & 8 Wine Dinner
Saturday, April 8th

Vineyard 7&8 sits at the top of Spring Mountain.  Their vineyards, which lie above the fog, are late ripening with low yields, natural drainage, and infertile volcanic soil. These unique conditions add to the distinctive quality of their wines which is unlike any other appellation.
Their facility allows them to micromanage the entire process, beginning in the vineyards and ending with the consumer.  Owner, associate winemaker, and your fellow member, Wes Steffens will host the dinner. This is a very special opportunity to spend quality time with Wes and one you won't want to miss. Aeration

While the back nine greens have been performing better each day since installation, those of us in maintenance are excited to aerate all of our greens next week. Since laying the sod in November our expectations of consistent playing conditions would come once we have recovery from Spring aeration, April or early May.

The greens came out of our very wet winter beautifully and while we will be aerating all greens we do so with a cautious hand. Aeration brings many benefits but can also cause harm if not carried out precisely and with care. During Fall aeration we tried several different methods to achieve our aeration goals as well as to enable a rapid recovery. The results were exceptional and we will move forward this Spring with those same methods to ensure the health of the greens and to promote a quick recovery. Tees, approaches and fairways will also be aerated as normal next week.

We appreciated everyone’s patience and understanding and share with you our excitement for the year to come.

Women's Clinics

Please join us again this year for our complimentary Women’s Golf Clinics every Wednesday during the month of May. This is a great way to remove the rust from our wet and rainy winter and improve your skills in all aspects of the game, from putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, and long game. Choose between one of the two times offered … either the 9am or 11am clinic (the content is the same for both clinics).

Mayacama Junior Golf Camp Dates

In 2016 we added a second Junior Golf Camp to our already successful Junior Golf Boot Camp. With the success of that event, we’ve added a third Junior Golf Camp to our 2017 Mayacama Schedule. Mayacama to Host AJGA's Wyndham Cup

We’re pleased to announce that Mayacama Golf Club will be the host venue for the AJGA’s Wyndham Cup in July.

The Wyndham Cup is an annual team match play competition featuring the 10 best male and female junior golfers from East of the Mississippi River versus their counterparts from the West.  Matches include four-ball, mixed-four-ball, foursomes, mixed-foursomes and singles. The event is highlighted by the team camaraderie and spirit generated by the juniors and Team Captains.

Over the years, The Wyndham Cup has criss-crossed the Mississippi River to such courses at Lake Nona, The Honors Course, Caves Valley, Forest Highlands, The Stanwich Club, and now Mayacama. And The Wyndham Cup features tomorrows LPGA and PGA Tour stars … indeed past participants includes Jordan Spieth, Paula Creamer, Tiger Woods, Brittany Lincicome, Phil Mickleson and Morgan Pressel just to name a few!

And Mayacama Members will have the opportunity to play with one of these outstanding  Juniors in a unique “Junior-Am” competition scheduled on July 4th!

Women's Traveling Cup - Bandon Dunes 2017!

Come participate in the Sixth Playing of The Women’s Traveling Cup at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort! Mayacama Golf Professionals Andrew Black and Chelsa Helget are looking forward to hosting you for four rounds of golf at America’s Number one Golf Resort. Players will stay on-site in the Chrome Lake Lofts and enjoy the four courses at Bandon Dunes Resort … Bandon Trails, Bandon Dunes, Old MacDonald, and Pacific Dunes. All four of the venues at Bandon Dunes are listed in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses in America, with Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes having the distinction of being listed in GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 in The World at Nos. 21 and 64 respectively.  Over the years, The Women’s Traveling Cup has been a great way to travel with your fellow Members, meet new friends, and play some of the world’s finest golf courses. And Bandon Dunes Golf Resort will be no exception. The dates are August 3 – 8, and a few playing spots are still available. Women's Home & Home - Brentwood Country Club

There is still room for a few more players in The Women’s Home & Home with Brentwood Country Club. Here’s another great playing opportunity for Mayacama Women! Come join your fellow Mayacama Members for a friendly game with 8 Members of Brentwood at Mayacama on May 31 – June 2. Formats for the three rounds are being formulated with the emphasis on fun, camaraderie and some great food & wine (of course). Anyone interested should contact the Golf Shop for more information. There are still a few spots available and all persons playing in the “home portion” of the event will have the first opportunity to join the “away” portion at Brentwood later in the year.

The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (widely known as DRC, or in Vosne-Romanée, simply "le domaine") is the most famous producer in Burgundy. It has an array of vineyards – and a reputation – that are second to none.  DRC is rightly regarded as one of the world's greatest estates, an opinion supported by the quality and longevity of its wines, as well as the prices they fetch on the secondary market.

Because of my past relationship with the Domaine and the importer, Mayacama receives a handsome allocation of the wines (5000 cases produced and distributed worldwide).  Every March we sit on the edge of our seats waiting for the allocations to be announced.  The wine is shipped in straw wrapped bottles to protect the labels in April.   DRC produce eight Grand Cru wines of which we receive wine from all eight.  The Romanee Conti Romanee Conti bottling sold last year at retail for $20,000 per bottle (Mayacama members fared much better).

On Monday, March 6, the Domaine’s managing partner, Aubert de Vallaine, hosted a tasting of the 2014 vintage at San Francisco’s Legion of Honor.  Top Somms from Denver to San Francisco, the Canadian Border to Texas, were invited to taste what the vintage had to offer.  Lucky me, I was invited too.

We began the morning with a meet and greet over glasses of Gosset Champagne, then moved into the Rodin room for a seated tasting and Q&R with Aubert.  My tasting notes are available for anyone interested.

Our DRC offer will become available in April so please reach out to me with any interest.  Of course, the offer will be dependent on our allocation.  Stay tuned……

TENNIS CENTER Activity

If you didn't see the video on our Facebook or Instagram, the Tennis Courts are getting a face lift! A complete resurface and repaint is in the works and will be open for play in a few days. New furniture is on its way and we will be painting new parking spots and a crosswalk from the Club Driveway to the Courts and Pool for easy access.
