Spring is in the air at Mayacama and after receiving some much needed rain, we are ready to begin a terrific season at the Club. We recently hosted our Annual St. Patrick’s Day Fourball Championship which is always one of our most celebrated events. This year the sold-out gathering was no exception. In fact, the staff enjoys this one as much as the Members because it signals the “kick off” for what will surely be a busy year. We recently emailed you our “Family Guide” so be sure to take the time to read it, especially if you have children or grandchildren! There are events worth noting including our first ever “Mini-Mudder” race! And new for 2018 is a “Spring into Wellness Open House” event scheduled for Saturday, April 14. Finally, don’t forget to sign up for our Easter Brunch & Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 1 and the Vintner Cup and All Vintner Pour on May 12! We hope to see you soon here at the Club. Spa Policy ChangeWe continually strive to provide you with world class service and create teams of the most talented industry professionals around. Working to maintain very reasonable pricing in our extraordinary Spa has created a challenge in keeping up with therapist compensation provided by area destination Spas who charge much higher prices enabling them to offer higher compensation. As members, you deserve to enjoy an exclusive opulent Spa while being pampered by industry leading providers, all at competitive rates. To keep our prices low and maintain our team of talented professionals, we must update our policy on gratuities. Effective, April 1, 2018, our Spa Gratuity policy will change to include a 20% automatic service charge for each spa treatment. There will no longer be an option to add additional gratuity to your bill, rates will be the same for everyone. Similar to food and beverage service, Spa providers rely on gratuities as an essential part of their income. This policy change will enable us to continue to compete for the most gifted treatment providers in the area. SPRING AERATIONBy Dale Engman, Golf Course Superintendent
I hope everyone has been able to get out and enjoy the beautiful playing conditions we have been experiencing recently. We couldn’t be happier with how well our new putting surfaces have matured and are currently playing. For aeration this Spring we will be enacting two different processes that will allow us to achieve our goals while minimizing impacts to play. Topdressing will still happen and is a vital component of our processes but the ‘coring’ of the green will not happen as normal. Instead we have acquired a new piece of equipment with the ability to inject oxygen deep into the root zone. This technology is fairly new and we are excited to add it to our agronomic program. It not only puts oxygen where it is needed, the root zone, but does so in a way that is far less disruptive to the surface of the green, in other words, fewer holes. The second process allows us to inject sand and amendments four inches into the soil profile and while there will be holes created in doing so there will be far less of them. The end result of these processes is twofold; one, fewer holes to give Poa the opportunity to gain a foothold and two, we expect to see cleaner, more playable greens post aeration. We continue to focus on improving our aeration techniques and have been putting forth a lot of effort to improve playability immediately after aeration. There will always be certain effects from what we do for aeration but with these new processes in place we expect normal playing conditions to return in two weeks or less. KATZIN CUP The Spring Katzin Cup will be held on Wednesday, April 4th at Windsor Golf Course. Following the tradition that Andy Katzin started years ago, it is customary for Mayacama Members to invite a Mayacama Caddie or Employee to be their guest and partner for the day. The format is a team skins event. Participants are asked to bring a bottle or two of wine to share with the group at the reception after golf. Please join us again this year for our complimentary Women’s Golf Clinics every Thursday during the month of May. This is a great way to remove the rust from our wet and rainy winter and improve your skills in all aspects of the game, from putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, and long game. The clinic is scheduled at 10:00 am and will last approximately 90 minutes. Participants should register in advance by calling the Golf Shop at 707-569-2915. Join the Team! Sign up for Mayacama’s first ever PGA Jr. League Team. The program is available to boys and girls of all skill levels. It's a great learning experience as PGA and LPGA Professionals serve as captains and provide instruction as the teams prepare for competition. SPRING INTO WELLNESS OPEN HOUSE, APRIL 14
New for 2018, is a “Spring into Wellness Open House” scheduled for Saturday, April 14. We have updated our spa menu and will debut the new services in April! Our Spa Director, Levi White, has sourced new boutique retail lines which will be on display with representatives on-site for consultations. Additionally, the Spa itself was given a gentle refresh recently which we know you will appreciate. Join us on the 14th for Qigong in The Courtyard at 10:30am, then at 12pm for a Golf Fitness class lead by our Activities Director Courtney Rebel and Assistant Golf Pro Chelsa Helget!
