Wines to remember from a place you'll never forget!
Armida Winery was acquired 17 years ago by Vintner member Bruce Cousins and his brother Steve. Over the course of these years these brothers have transformed Armida Winery from a sleepy little winery producing pretty good wines to a much more lively place focusing on ultra premium, hand-crafted, single-vineyard wines from the top vineyards in the surrounding Dry Creek, Russian River, and Alexander Valley appellations. During this time Armida has become the local’s favorite winery because of their "be sure to have a good time attitude." Don’t be fooled though; the brothers are serious winemakers as evidenced by the numerous accolades, gold medals, and 90+ ratings over the last five years.
THE WINES
2013 Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley
Armida’s Sauvignon Blanc is grown in the cool fog-influenced Russian River Valley. The cool nights and warm days allow for a fully balanced wine from meticulously farmed vines. The cool nights causes the grapes to retain its acidity, while the warm days bring a tropical fruit aspect to the wine. Aromas of pineapple, honeydew and gooseberry precede the kiwi fruit, apple and lemon sorbet flavors on the palate. This is a great wine for sipping and an outstanding match with food.
2013 Chardonnay, Stuhlmuller Vineyard, Alexander Valley
The grapes from Stuhlmuller were grown using a unique old Chardonnay clone. The wine, an extended aged chardonnay, was produced without secondary malolactic fermentation. Beautiful tropical flavors are balanced with classic minerality to create this rich, refreshing Chardonnay. Less than 300 cases were produced.
2013 Pinot Noir, Parmalee Hill, Sonoma Valley
This single-vineyard Pinot Noir comes from the acclaimed Parmelee-Hill Vineyard located just north of Carneros in Southwest Sonoma Valley. Two different Dijon clones (115 & 667) of Pinot Noir help to create a more balanced wine. The grapes were cold soaked before fermentation for 5 days to gently extract color and flavor. The wine was fermented quite slowly and pressed directly to barrel and aged in French oak for 18 months. With a deep, dark color, cherries and sarsaparilla dominate the aromatic profile. The first taste is reminiscent of fresh bowls of red fruits, followed by blackberry, plum, slight red licorice and sweet, vanilla cigar tobacco.
2012 Zinfandel, Maple Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
The Maple Vineyard is an old vine Zin from a benchland vineyard above the east side of Dry Creek, farmed using old world techniques. The free-run juice is gently transferred to French and American oak barrels and aged for 16 months. The nearly perfect 2012 vintage resulted in a beautiful marriage of the pomegranate acidity with classic Dry Creek dark plum flavors and aromas. This wine is perfect for pairing with classic Sonoma County fare.
2011 Reserve Zinfandel, POIZIN, Sonoma County
Armida’s finest Zinfandel. Where most of their wines are vineyard designates expressing the uniqueness and terroir of the vineyard, this wine is a homage to the art of blending. Specific barrels are chosen to create this otherworldly nectar. Deep, dark plum in color, the bright nose exhibits mocha, raspberry and blackberries. The rich, supple, velvety texture displays flavors of dried cranberries, blueberry jam, spicy strawberries and red currants. A touch of Petite Sirah contributes black pepper spice, balanced acidity and firm structure. Enjoy this POIZIN with caution, for it is The Wine to Die for!
