We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your overwhelming support of the Club as we hosted the American Junior Golf Association’s Wyndham Cup in early July. We witnessed some of the finest golf ever played at Mayacama from kids ranging in age from 12 to 18 years old. Wow, was it an impressive field! Once again, Mayacama Members showed how patriotic you all are by hosting this during the week of July 4th! We are so fortunate to have a membership that truly believes in “giving back to the game”. And speaking of giving, so far this year and thanks to you, we have hosted the Special Needs Prom, the Schulz Celebrity Classic (which again raised over $1M for local children’s charities) and most recently the Wyndham Cup. These are all reminders of how fortunate we all are to be part of a special Club called Mayacama and it doesn’t exist without our Members. We are so thankful for your continued support.

Please be advised, the Club will be closed on Monday, September 11th due to a Private Golf Tournament. In lieu of this, the Club will be open for regular usage and service on Tuesday, September 12th.

Arrowood is within the Jackson Family Winery portfolio and located in the heart of Sonoma Valley.  This area is described as a warm pocket in a cool region making it perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon,  Arrowood’s signature wine.  Please join us on Friday, August 4th for a tasting and a fun evening.

On Saturday, August 12th, Mayacama Member Craig Ramsey and Janet Hart, will be hosting a day on the lake at Janet’s Arbor Bench Winery in the Dry Creek Valley.
 
Join us for a relaxing day of swimming, live music, great wines, craft beer and a beautifully catered meal by “Eli Grace Catering”.  Those who attended Craig’s birthday bash last year will remember spending a beautiful day in the vineyards and for you newcomers, enjoy the best that wine country has to offer.
 
Families are welcome.  Bring your bathing suits, towels and floaties for the kids (no lifeguards will be on duty). Festivities are from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.  This is a drop-in event.

Private KJ Event: Tomato Festival

Kendall-Jackson has sadly decided to discontinue their annual Tomato Festival after 20 successful years.  However, the private event for Mayacama Members lives on!  The great folks from the Jackson Family Wine Estates will host up to 40 of our members for our own private afternoon. 
 
Begin with a tour of the gardens, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables from all over the world.  The gardens are tended by Tucker Taylor, formerly of the Master Gardener at the French Laundry.  Taste tomato inspired dishes created by KJ’s personal chefs along with artisan pizza from their wood-burning oven, located in the garden.  Pair their creations with wines from the Jackson Family Estates while relaxing or strolling through the garden.

Join us on Saturday, August 19 from 2:00 to 5:00.  Attendance is limited to the first 40 members who sign up.  Shuttle service will be available by reservation only.

Sip 'N Swing & Dinner

Join us for this fun, casual golf event which is open to Social Members and guests too. Our Sip ‘N Swing event begins with a 4:00pm shotgun start, followed by a dinner buffet on the Dining Room Terrace. The format for this event is a six-person, 9-hole scramble. Make your own team of six or sign up individually and we will pair you with a group. Participants will enjoy specialty cocktails, ice cold beers and sip summer wines on several of the holes. Even if you aren't able to play in the Sip 'N Swing, make plans to meet up with the players and enjoy a fun dinner with your fellow members.

Zach makilan:
mayacama's first assistant golf professional

We’re pleased to announce that Zach Makilan has been named First Assistant Golf Professional at Mayacama. Zach is the fourth such person to hold this prestigious title, following John McMullen, Head Professional/Director of Golf at Hillcrest Country Club in Beverly Hills, CA, Chapman Dundas, Head Professional at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club in Santa Rosa, CA, and Andrew Black, now the Head Golf Professional at Burlingame Country Club in Burlingame, CA.  We’re excited to have Zach fill this important role at the Club, and know that his knowledge of the Club and our Members will enable the Club to have a seamless transition into the next phase of our Golf Operation. A PGA Member since 2014, Zach brings a wealth of knowledge to the position. He is a TPI Certified Golf Instructor, a PXG Staff Member, a Certified Club Fitter, and received Certification in the use of Trackman for both Club Fitting and Golf Instruction. Zach is an outstanding player and competes regularly in the Northern California Section of the PGA of America Tournament Series as well as the Assistants Association of the NCPGA.  

Zach first joined the Golf Staff at Mayacama in the Summer of 2001 as a member of our Outside Services Staff, and was present on our Opening Day! Since 2007, he has been an integral part of our Professional Staff, performing all of the functions of a PGA Professional including Merchandising, Playing the game with Members and their guests, Golf Travel, Tournament Operations, and in particular … Golf Instruction! Zach’s students have all expressed their appreciation for Zach as an outstanding Golf Instructor and in particular his ability to effectively communicate both mechanics and feel as they relate to the Golf Swing.

It's good...
AJGA's wyndham cup at mayacama a tremendous success!

“It's Good!” … No two words are more enjoyable to hear when playing Match Play than the sound of your opponent conceding your next stroke! Yet the real winner in the AJGA’s Wyndham Cup, played at Mayacama over Independence Day week, is the game of golf itself!

The week saw the Nation’s top 40 Junior Golfers face off in a Ryder Cup style match with 10 Boys and 10 Girls from the East vs. their counterparts from the West. And the East broke a 4 year drought to take the Wyndham Cup away from the home team. But again, it was the Game of Golf that was the real winner … along with those Members who came out to watch these great players. At no time have we had a stronger field of players from top to bottom play our golf course so well. And play it well they did! How well? The West Team of Cole Hammer and Shuai Ming Wong were 12 under par through 16 holes in their Four-Ball Match… and lost! That’s because their opponents from the East, Garrett Barber and Jon Pak did two better, thanks to Barber’s three eagles!

Mayacama seemed to yield birdie after birdie to these great players, who played the course all the way back for the Boys and from a combination of Plates and Middle Tees for the Girls. Each player played from tee to green with precision and without fear. In the end, the player(s) who putted better came out victorious in each match, adding further credibility to the quote from the great Harry Vardon … “A man (or woman) who can putt is a match for any man. A man who cannot is a match for no one!”

But again, the real winner was the Game of Golf! To see how the game has changed over the years, one needs to look no further than a Junior Golf Tournament, where the face of the game is moving toward a diverse group of players whose only concern is the yardage for their next stroke. To see kids from all walks of life coming together to play this Honorable and Ancient Game with skill and integrity is something that we will all remember for years to come!

Thank you to all of the Members who supported the event through your involvement as spectators, donors, or Junior Am participants. And if you didn’t have a chance to see the spectacle first-hand … stay tuned! Rumor has it that you may have another chance in 4 years!

Husband & Wife Club Championship Recap

Eleven couples endured the blazing heat during this year’s Husband and Wife Club Championships. The format for the event was Chapman Stroke Play, a great format to help identify the best Husband and Wife team at Mayacama.

It was Robert and Sonja Pang with a gross score of 74 who claimed their first Husband and Wife Club Championship. In the Mayacama Flight, no strangers to the winning circle in this event, Rick and Martha Herbert played their way to a 5 stroke victory shooting a net 65! Thank you all for playing, and congratulations to our 2017 Husband and Wife Club Champions!

Tennis & Swim Center Update

Earlier this year we completed an upgrade of our Tennis courts including brand new playing surfaces, nets, wind screens, re-painting and updated furniture. We are happy to announce our newest addition to the Swim and Tennis Complex; a family friendly multi-use sport court located at the far end of the parking lot. The court is complete with a poured rubberized surface, regulation half-court with High School/ College 3-point-line and an adjustable backboard that will go from regulation 10 feet down to 7 feet for some of our junior basketball stars. Along with the new hoops is an additional set-up for volley ball, badminton and pickle-ball. And be sure to enjoy the new volleyball net and basketball hoop recently added inside the pool. We are sure you, your family, and guests will enjoy this new addition!
