Dear Member,
As we wrap up the year, we remind ourselves that we at Mayacama have so much to be thankful for in 2017. The single most destructive wildfire in the state's history, the Tubbs fire, was the wildfire that not only damaged Mayacama but is responsible for the loss of 4,658 homes throughout Sonoma and Napa Counties. The wildfires resulted in the loss of homes of several of our Members, employees and caddies and countless others in our area. If you followed the club updates and were able to see the aerial video post-fire you will realize how incredibly lucky Mayacama Golf Club was to have sustained what we would consider minimal damage compared to the losses so many in the area have suffered. Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone, particularly those Members and employees who lost their homes and possessions.
Repairs are still under way and our recovery efforts like many others are still ongoing and at times challenging. We will begin repairing the golf course bridges starting with the 15th and 16th holes in mid-January and will work as fast as weather permits to reopen the 15th hole. We will also be replacing certain pieces of furniture & fixtures in the Villas and Casitas which are currently being sourced and we look forward to sharing these new looks with you once complete. The repaired treatment facility will be back online by the end of January completing a total rebuild of a key component of the Club's infrastructure.
This fire has taught all of us a great deal about the vulnerabilities we face from an event like this and what we can do to better protect ourselves, our Club community and the underlying infrastructure that supports it. We will be implementing these new procedures with the help of our homeowners and neighbors in Shiloh as we work to protect the Club and homes to the best of our ability.
Prior to the fires, we were enjoying a wonderful year with a great deal to celebrate. Governor Brown declared the state's drought was over, the Club was able to complete the installation of the remaining green complexes and we began construction on the next phase of four Villas near the 3rd green/4th tee. For the third consecutive time, the Club was voted into the "Top 100 Platinum Clubs of the World," we are once again in Golf Digest's Top 100 rankings and Mayacama hosted the Wyndham Cup over the holiday week of July 4. We also added 26 new Members (combined in all categories) through September.
Over the course of the past year we have been working with designers and architects as we look to remodel and enhance the clubhouse experience. We are excited to announce that the Club is moving forward with the remodel and slight expansion scheduled for the spring of 2018. We will be replacing most of the clubhouse furniture, expanding the bar and grill and will be adding a covered element and lounge feel to the “smoking patio” or as we will soon be calling it, the “Sunset Terrace."
During the remodel period we will be using the living room and dining room on the east end of the clubhouse as our temporary bar and grill. The Club will be open throughout these projects so there will be no interruptions of service. Rest assured, we will make sure you have a great experience when you dine with us, watch your favorite events or share an evening with friends and family. We are looking forward to sharing the plans in greater detail this winter as we finalize the program and design.
All of this means that 2018 is shaping up to be Mayacama's best year ever! At this point in time, we will not increase the Club's dues. Instead, we plan to increase dues in July 2018 when we expect the clubhouse remodel and all rebuilding efforts to be completed. Please be sure to read our emails as we update you on our progress.
We would like to thank you for your contributions to the Employee Holiday Fund and the Employee Caddie Fire Relief Fund. They are incredibly grateful for your generosity as it means so much to them especially during the holiday season. It is truly appreciated.
If anything positive can come from the tragedy of these fires, it is how close our Club, our Members and the surrounding communities have become. There has never been a stronger sense of "team" within our staff and we are all so grateful to be here, serving you all, at this fabulous Club we are fortunate enough to call our home and our employer. It has truly reinforced our belief of how a team sticks together with the goal of prevailing! We are so excited about our future and we're honored to serve you, the best Members in the world. Let's make 2018 a year to remember! See you at the Club!
Sincerely,

Jonathan Wilhelm
