Caddie Program Update

We wanted to update you on the current status of our Caddie Program and the use of golf cars. Walking the course has always been the preferred method for a round of golf at Mayacama, and remains so today. Because of COVID-19 protocols, we made the use of golf cars available to all Members as an option in the event that they wanted to minimize contact in their group. By popular demand, we also brought the Caddie Program back on an optional basis. Though not mandatory, our Caddies have been getting out fairly regularly, with about 36% of the rounds utilizing their service. Golf Car usage, however, has increased significantly.

Our custom has always been to have a limited number of golf cars available for our Members who are over the age of 65 or for need, and that remains so today. We are also sensitive to those with concerns about COVID-19 wishing to continue minimizing contact wherever possible. For those with concerns, we will continue to make golf cars available for the foreseeable future. Yet walking remains the preferred method of play, either with a Caddie, carrying, or for now utilizing a "trolley" (push cart). For those of you who opt to ride, we ask that you respect your fellow Members who are walking at a proper pace. We also ask that you respect standard golf car etiquette by keeping your golf car well away from putting greens, greenside approaches, and teeing areas.

These have been trying times for all of us, yet we remain steadfast in our efforts to preserve the unique culture at Mayacama Golf Club.

Current Course Conditions

Some of you may have noticed some discoloration on 1, 2, 4, 6, and 9 fairways. As discussed in a previous communication, we've begun to remove unwanted bentgrass from select fairways with a three application process that leaves our desirable perennial ryegrass intact. We realize it is unsightly at the moment, but we are in the final stages, and soon we will see the discoloration fade and our new ryegrass seedlings take over. It is a complex process, but the result will be a dense stand of perennial ryegrass in the fairway.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this course maintenance project.
