Zach Makilan selected to the 2018 Assistant Apprentice North vs. South Cup Matches
This is Zach’s third straight year competing in the North vs. South Cup Matches. The top 12 Assistant Professionals and Apprentices from Northern California are selected to compete in a “Ryder Cup” style Match Play event against the top 12 Assistants and Apprentices from Southern California. The matches were played at The Alisal in lovely Solvang, CA. The home course advantage helped Southern California re-capture the Cup. Congratulations to the Southern California PGA, and all of the Assistant Professionals and Apprentices on their great play!
The 2019 Rules of Golf Take Effect January 1
More than six years in the making, the rewrite of the Rules of Golf will become the new standard for the game of golf beginning January 1, 2019. Once referred to as “simplification of the Rules”, it is more appropriately referred to now as “Rules Modernization”. This massive undertaking by the USGA and Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews took over six years to complete, and every current rule was on the table for discussion (except relief from divots … sorry). And while the changes will definitely benefit golfers of all levels, the two core principles of the rules, present in the original set of 13 rules written in 1744, namely “play the ball as it lies and play the course as you find it,” have been preserved.
Click the image above to view a full-sized version.
To help you better understand these new changes, we will be conducting a series of “Rules Chats” at the Club. An additional email will be sent in the coming weeks with a schedule of the several dates these “Rules Chats” will take place. These informative workshops will be conducted by our Head Golf Professional Ted Antonopoulos and his fellow Mayacama Golf Professionals Zach Makilan, Chelsa Helget and Hayden Stratton. Each session will be approximately 90 minutes in length and will cover the basic changes to the Rules of Golf for 2019. All attendees will receive a copy of the Players Edition of the Rules of Golf. And of course, wine will be served!
About The Instructor
Ted Antonopoulos is in his fifth year as a member of the PGA of America Rules Committee. He also serves as a member of the USGA Senior Amateur Championship Committee and the NCAA Championship Committee. In addition to his position as Head Golf Professional at Mayacama Golf Club, Ted is an active Rules Official, working an average of 10 to 12 events per year. He has officiated over a dozen USGA Championships including the 2018 US Amateur Championship, NCAA Conference, Regional and National Championships, AJGA events, Northern California Golf Association Championships, and as an active Member of the PGA of America Rules Committee, he officiates in several National Championships conducted by the PGA of America each year. Ted is also an Instructor in the 3 ½ Day PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshops.

Club Membership Referrals
The Club’s ownership has spent a great deal of time and money marketing the Club in an effort to increase the pace of membership sales. Our single greatest asset in increasing our membership base is you and your fellow Members. With your continued help and commitment in providing at least one name to our sales department of someone who might be interested in membership at Mayacama, we can reach our goal of having a waitlist to acquire memberships under each category.

Paperless Statements
Beginning January 1, 2019, the Club will be sending statements through email as part of a continuing effort to increase our sustainability and to reduce unnecessary expense. All Members will start receiving statements in their email unless they choose to opt-out. An email will be sent in December with more information on that process. Thank you for your support as we move toward more eco-friendly operations.
