Robert Parker says “I would have to rank DuMOL as one of my favorite half dozen producers of California Chardonnay as well as one of the top twenty in terms of Pinot Noir. Moreover, their Syrah program is also impressive. Since its beginning in 1996, DuMOL has had a stellar lineup of wines which today includes Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Viognier. Partners Kerry Murphy, Andy Smith, and Michael Verlander tend to lead a low profile with very minimal public exposure and let their wines speak for themselves. They believe in blending but do produce outstanding single-vineyard wines. The single-vineyard wines are not named after the principals or the vineyards, but instead use the names of their family members. Most of the grapes are sourced from the Green Valley appellation where DuMOL also has an estate vineyard, with other grape sources in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Carneros. Contracts are long-term and grapes are paid for by the acre, insuring that yields can be restricted."

The winemaker and viticulturist since 2000 is talented Andy Smith who became a partner in the winery in 2005. Prior to coming to DuMOL, he studied under Neil McCallum (Dry River, Martinborough), Ted Lemon (Littorai), and Paul Hobbs.

 A SPECIAL OFFER
Kerry Murphy has opened up DuMOL’s cellar to allow Mayacama Members a last chance to grab some incredible wines from past vintages before they are completely sold out.

2011 Chardonnay, Russian River Valley
The 2011 Chardonnays show similarities to both the 2010 and 2005 vintages, which put them in fairly rarified territory. It was a challenging year farming the coastal vineyards, but hard work and intricate decisions helped the wines shine through, making it a special year.

The 2011 Russian River Chardonnay shows lovely aromas of lemon curd and lemon grass with sweet lime and honeydew melon, offset by floral aromas of fresh fennel and bay leaf. On the palate the wine opens to fresh baked apple, quince and richer citrus with hints of white nectarine, grapefruit and Gravenstein apple.  A tangy lime zest dominates the echoing, vibrant finish.

2010 Chardonnay, isobel, Charles Heintz Vineyard, Russian River Valley
DuMOL’s isobel chardonnay offers beautiful aromatics, taut and sinewy with grapefruit, lime, and fresh herbs. With a touch of air the wine begins to open and shows apricot, honey and beeswax. Initially flinty and stony, the flavors on the palate begin to develop, showing lovely white peach, lemon curd and honey.  With a bit of focus, you will also find some lovely savory elements. The wine finishes clean and focused. Because of its beautiful acid structure, the wine will show well with age.

2011 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Green Valley/Russian River Vineyards
This wine has a great purity of Pinot aromas; fresh cherry, raspberry, sassafras, rose petal, and orange peel.  After aeration the wine turns savory and complex with hints of green tea, beetroot, smoke, rose hip and juniper. On the palate, the wine is juicy with red fruits; sour cherry, damson plum, raspberry, cranberry and crisp red apple skin. As the wine continues to open, darker tones begin to emerge showing cassis, and huckleberry. The finish has silky fine textures and is always lively and mouth-watering.

2010 Pinot Noir, ryan, Dutton-Widdoes Vineyard, Russian River Valley
This wine is a brilliant dark-rose color showing intense dark fruit aromas of black raspberry, boysenberry, and kirsch. Typical Widdoes vineyard complexity takes hold with tarragon, black olive, soy, and truffle. The wine is bright and fresh on the palate, broad, yet soft and enveloping. The palate shows dark fruit that is complex, yet, never heavy. There is a generous, broad finish with lifting fresh acidity.

2010 Syrah, Russian River Valley
The 2010 Syrah shows immediate complexity of sweet and savory aromas with white and black pepper, cassis, blue fruits, dried Provencal herbs, smoked meat, balsamic and floral notes. Forward, soft, ripe fruit appears on the palate…juicy and plush; first blueberry and boysenberry, then savory notes take hold with tapenade, soy, graphite, thyme, and Lavender. The wine has a long and expanding finish.

2009 Syrah, eddie’s patch, Hoppe-Kelly Vineyard, Russian River Valley
Dark, briary, and fruit driven the 2009 eddie’s patch offers an intense aromatic core of blackberry and blackberry.  The wine turns savory and complex with air offering spearmint, tarragon, smoked meat, pepper steak, thyme, and mixed peppercorns. The wine shows fruit and vineyard purity on the palate with a deep core of juicy blackberry/boysenberry, with graphite, olive tapenade, and notes of cocoa powder. The finish is long with broad, seamless tannins and shows hints of anise and lavender.
