Robert Parker says “I would have to rank DuMOL as one of my favorite half dozen producers of California Chardonnay as well as one of the top twenty in terms of Pinot Noir. Moreover, their Syrah program is also impressive”.

Since its beginning in 1996, DuMOL has had a stellar lineup of wines which today includes Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier. Partners Kerry Murphy, Andy Smith and Michael Verlander tend to lead a low profile with very minimal public exposure and let their wines speak for themselves. They believe in blending but do produce outstanding single-vineyard wines. The Single-Vineyard wines are not named after the principals or the vineyards, but instead use the names of their family members. Most of the grapes are sourced from the Green Valley appellation where DuMOL also has an estate vineyard, with other grape sources in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, and Carneros. Contracts are long-term and grapes are paid for by the acre, insuring that yields can be restricted.

A Special Offer:

DuMOL is moving to their Russian River 2015 releases this May and the single vineyard wines in September. Before moving to the new vintages they have opened up their library so our members can enjoy the wines from 2013 and get the advantage of great wines with a bit of age.

The Wines

2013 Russian River Chardonnay

The 2013 Chardonnay Russian River is basically a blend of some terrific terroirs including their own estate vineyard as well as three highly regarded single vineyards for Chardonnay – Heintz, Lorenzo and Ritchie. The clonal material here is Clone 4, Mt. Eden and Wente. The wine displays beautiful honeysuckle and notes of orange blossom in a fruit-forward, medium to full-bodied style. It was aged 11 months in oak and then moved to tank for 3-4 months prior to bottling. This beautiful Chardonnay should drink nicely for 5-7 years.

2013 Chardonnay, isobel, Charles Heintz Vineyard, Russian River Valley

Absolutely sensational, the 2013 Chardonnay isobel comes exclusively from the 32-year-old vines of the Charles Heintz Vineyard. Barrel-fermented and aged 13 months on its lees, then four months in tank, this wine offers up quintessential Chardonnay notes such as white peach, wet stones and hazelnut. It exhibits great acidity, a full-bodied, honeyed texture, superb purity, and a tightly coiled, crisp, zesty finish. It should be even better with another 6-12 months of cellaring and keep for a decade or more.

2013 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Green Valley/Russian River Vineyards

The 2013 Pinot Noir Russian River is their largest cuvée of just over 4,000 cases. It is made from the grapes of five separate vineyards, and includes about 20% whole clusters in the fermentation. The wine displays sweet and sour cherries, a seductive, meaty herbaceous and roundness, lush tannin and good depth of fruit and finish. This wine was aged in about 40% new French oak for 12 months, moved to tank for three months and then bottled unfiltered. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

2013 Pinot Noir, connor Vineyard, Russian River Valley

The 2013 Pinot Noir connor from a Sonoma Coast site with multiple clones, was aged 15 months in 30% new French oak. This wine offers good, tart acids and a hint of Chinese black tea. It is medium-bodied, high-toned, with good, pure sweet and sour cherry fruit and some loamy notes along with underbrush. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

2013 Syrah, Russian River Valley

The 2013 Syrah Russian River is fermented with about 30% whole clusters and displays notes of bacon fat, charcuterie, ground pepper, blackberry and cassis. A lovely, supple lushness and good purity make for a long, heady, rich Syrah to drink over the next 7-8 years.
