Bunker renovation project
This year we are embarking on a bunker renovation project to update and improve the look and playability of our bunkers. While our bunkers generally look good, playability has suffered from years of sand contamination, grass intrusion, and outdated irrigation. The goal of the renovation is to not only improve the look of the bunkers with new sand, turf and irrigation but, more importantly, improve the playability. Two of the most important key improvements we will be making includes a new liner system and sub-surface irrigation along with new sand and sod.

The new liner system will greatly improve how the bunker drains in the winter as well as eliminate the problem of the liner rising to the surface and becoming a hazard; an issue many of us have experienced. The new liner is a relatively new process called 'Billy Bunker' developed by a former superintendent from Augusta National. It is a gravel layer installed below the sand that is treated with a polymer creating a virtually permanent layer that drains beautifully while keeping the sand clean. Going forward this will aid tremendously in not only playability during our wet months but decrease maintenance dramatically when we get the heavy rains in winter.

Another addition to the bunkers is sub-surface irrigation. Previously we used typical pop-up style sprinklers to irrigate the difficult to water slopes of the bunkers. Subsurface irrigation is basically drip irrigation installed beneath the sod. This will allow us to water the slopes of the bunkers daily without adding more water to the bunkers themselves.

The plan for 2015 is to complete 15 to 20 bunkers this year with the remainder being completed in 2016.

BUNKER RENOVATION RELIEF PROCEDURES
During the process, entire bunkers on a particular hole will be out of play and designated as “Ground Under Repair” and will require mandatory relief from the construction area. A player must take relief (without penalty) from the condition by dropping the ball in the nearest area marked “Drop Zone”. When dropped, the ball must strike a part of the course within the Drop Zone area. The ball must be redropped if it rolls and comes to rest more than two club lengths from where it first struck the ground in the drop zone. However, a ball that first strikes a part of the course within the prescribed Drop Zone and comes to rest outside the Drop Zone may be played provided it has not rolled more than two club lengths from where it first struck the course within the Drop Zone.

BALL NOT FOUND
It is a question of fact whether a ball that has not been found after having been struck toward an abnormal ground condition is in such condition. In order to apply this rule, it must be known or virtually certain that the ball is in the abnormal ground condition (ground under repair). In the absence of such knowledge or certainty, the player must proceed under Rule 27-1 (Stroke and Distance; Lost Ball).

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A CADDIE
There’s the old adage about what it takes to be a caddie ... two strong legs, a strong back, and "Show Up, Keep Up, and Shut Up"! At Mayacama Golf Club, there’s a bit more to it than that. We thought that we would share with you exactly what it takes to be invited to become a Professional Caddie at Mayacama Golf Club.

How well is your golf swing working for you?

Mayacama Golf Club is proud to announce a unique opportunity designed specifically for our Members to participate in “The Body Swing Connection”. Designed by Dr. Nancy Auge and Ted Antonopoulos, TPI Certified Medical/Fitness Professional and TPI Certified Golf Instructor respectively, this program is tailored to optimize your golf swing efficiency. Employing Titleist Performance Institute methodologies, Nancy and Ted analyze the physical limitations that adversely affect the way you swing, compromise your game and potentially lead to injury. Then we work on the "What next?"

Members may choose between one of two programs we have built or, we can design a program specifically for you to meet your needs and schedule.

MEMBER TESTIMONIAL: Jonathan & Jessica Wilhelm

"Our family of four visited the Timbers Bachelor Gulch in Avon, Colorado December 21 - 27th, 2014. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, it was one of the most pampering and enjoyable ski vacations we've ever had. Upon arrival, the bell staff treated us like family and were very accommodating. We were ushered upstairs into a gorgeous lodge greeted with warm cookies, Chardonnay, and a simple check-in process that began with 'Welcome back to your home in the mountains!' We were handed our keys at 4:00 pm on the dot (as promised), shown our beautifully-appointed three-bedroom condo on the mountain and in no time were settled in (Christmas tree was lit up and all!). There was a great list of residence activities including family game night, junk-food bingo, and snow-shoeing tours that we could sign up for - all included. The concierge had contacted us numerous times before our trip to plan our reservations for dinner (Spago at the Ritz), and on the mountain (Jack's Cabin, arriving by Snow Cat!), Ski School for the kids, and babysitting services. The next morning we all received our ski rentals and ski passes and within 12 minutes just two floors below our condo! Unbelievable. The customer service was incredible, all our shipped packages (wine & presents) arrived before we did and were in our condo when we checked in. Each staff member we knew by name in a day or two, and the location of the family-friendly Bachelor Gulch ski mountain was perfect for us. In our opinion, it was better than Snowmass, Aspen, and Vail for a family - especially with young children. The other residents at Timbers were friendly and chatty, and we really had the best time. It snowed four of the seven days, and we all skied at least four days. We could leave our condo and be on the lift to the top of the mountain in our warm skis within 10 minutes! It couldn't possibly be better than that. The ideal ski vacation location! We look forward to our next visit!"
