DEAR MEMBERS,

We can't believe how fast January flew by! We're getting excited for beautiful weather in Sonoma County over the next few weeks and the Course is looking pristine. Throughout the month of February are exciting events including the First Friday Pour with Dutcher Crossing, for the first time ever Mayacama is hosting a Mardi Gras night with live jazz, dancing and a Cajun dinner from Executive Chef Scott Pikey. Later in the month we have our Generations Wine Dinner, another new event that showcases two wineries and the "next generation" that is preparing to continue the legacy their families created. February is a short month, but with wine events and kids' nights as well, it's sure to be an unforgettable time at Mayacama!

We hope to see you at the Club soon!

FIRST FRIDAY POUR
Friday, FEBRUARY 2
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Our next First Friday Pour features Dutcher Crossing Winery. Located in Dry Creek Valley, they are known as a Zinfandel producer, but they craft a wide selection of  amazing varietals from some of the best vineyards in the region.

Dutcher Crossing wines are meticulously handcrafted. From the selection of special blocks of choice grapes within a vineyard to their small open-top fermenting tanks, their wines receive the hands-on attention required to produce wines of the exceptional quality that exhibit the intense flavors and character of each varietal. All wines are then aged in American, French or European oak barrels until they are ready for bottling.

PGA JUNIOR League

The PGA Jr. League is a group of local golf teams who play a series of games against each other, using a fun two-person scramble format. The program is available to boys and girls of all skill levels, so sign your children up and let's have a great showing of Mayacama kids in the PGA Jr. League! It's a great learning experience as PGA and LPGA Professionals serve as captains and provide instruction as the teams prepare for competitions.

Player Eligibility

PGA Jr. League is open to boys and girls, age 13 or younger. The recommended minimum age is 9, however many Captains permit younger players to participate. All abilities are welcome, especially beginners.

Format and Rules

League – The league is made up of local teams within your geographic area. A league will have between four to seven teams. During the course of a regular season, your team will play a game against each team in your league.

Game – A game is played between two teams. During the course of a game, four matches are played by at least two players from each team against each other. The winner of the game is determined by the total number of points won within all the matches. Friends and family are encouraged to attend and watch.

Scramble – A popular format that encourages teamwork and problem solving. Each player tees off, the team then selects their best shot of the two, and then each player plays again from the spot of the selected shot. The team with the lowest score wins the hole.

Flags – Flags are 3-hole segments of each match. Since each match is played over the course of 9-holes, there are three flags per match. Whichever team wins the most holes within each flag, wins the corresponding flag. (Holes 1-3 = 1 flag; Holes 4-6 = 1 flag; Holes 7-9= 1 flag)

Points – Each flag won by the team is worth one point. Each tied flag is worth a half point. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Since there are four matches in each game, and each match is played for a maximum of three points, there are a maximum of 12 points total in each game.

Captains – Each team is captained by a PGA or LPGA Professional who provide critical instruction to help young participants advance their skill and character development on and off the course.

Teams – A team is a collection of eight to twelve players, boys and girls of any ability, who work together during the course of a game against another team.

Match – A match consists of two teammates (or three, with a substitute) competing against another team in a scramble format. The match lasts for nine holes and is broken up into 3-hole segments called “Flags."

Substitute – Every player on the team is encouraged to participate. While each match is only actively played by two players from each team at any given time, the team Captain may substitute a player into the match at the start of any flag. When a player is not one of the two active players in the match, they can still play an integral role in the success of their team by reading putts, discussing strategy, tending the flag stick and aiding pace of play. At no time should a substitute ever feel left out of the team’s efforts.

The season runs from April 1 through July 31, and player registration opens in early February for the 2018 season. Click HERE to register for the PGA Jr. League!
