Flambeaux Wine Offer
The Flambeaux have a history as unique as the wine which shares their name. It is a legacy of celebration that the Murray family trusts will be reflected in its vintages as current and future generations "pass on the torch" and strive to produce a very special wine. We welcome Flambeaux and the Murrays to our Mayacama Vintner Member Family!
What are Flambeaux?
The tradition of Flambeaux lighting New Orleans' Mardi Gras night parades emerged in the mid-1850s. The name comes from the French word flambe, meaning “flame.” Dressed like Bedouin traders in robes and turbans fashioned from bed sheets to protect them from dripping torch fuel, the Flambeaux marched, or more accurately danced, beside the floats to illuminate the whimsical or satirical parade decorations on poorly-lit 19th-century streets.
Since the advent of electrical street lights, Flambeaux, of course, are no longer necessary. However, since Mardi Gras is not about necessity, but fun, the Flambeaux have continued to march in night parades, dancing and twirling their torches to the delight of the crowd. They are the light of the New Orleans Carnival.
The People
Making great wine truly takes a village. At Flambeaux, everyone—not just the vineyard manager and the winemaker but also the entire Murray family—has a role and contributes to production.
The Murray family—grandparents Pattie and Steve, their son Art, his wife Nicole, and granddaughters Alys, Elizabeth, Nia and Lila—proudly began making Flambeaux Wine in 2014. With roots in New Orleans going back to the 1700s, the Murrays have brought the Crescent City's deep traditions of food and celebration to their new home in Sonoma County, another land of great hospitality and warmth.
Winemaker Ryan Prichard
Ryan Prichard grew up in Berkeley, CA and went to Cornell University where he took a senior elective class on wine appreciation which opened his eyes to the wines of the world. Fast forward years later, Ryan gave up his career in Technology and turned to winemaking full-time.
With stints at Williams Selyem, Copain Custom Crush, Medlock Ames, and now the Associate Winemaker at Three Sticks in Sonoma, Ryan has had experience in crafting some of Sonoma County’s finest wines. He joined the Murray family at Flambeaux with a keen interest in crafting wines that showcase unique terroirs.

DOUBLE GOLD, New Orleans International Wine Competition

TASTING NOTES: The 2015 Flambeaux Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant with aromas of red currants, dried cherries, cedar box and Madagascar vanilla. The palate is nicely structured with fine tannins, black tea, toasty spice and chocolate covered cherries. There is a silkiness and bright fruit that is refreshing in this wine. It should endure for years to come!
2015 FLAMBEAUX SONOMA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON
DOUBLE GOLD, 2018 New York World Wine & Spirit Competition
GOLD, Sonoma County Harvest Fair Competition
TASTING NOTES: The 2015 Flambeaux Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is deep and dark with a nose of anise, ripe blackberries, and rich pipe tobacco. The tannins on this wine are an iron fist in a velvet glove–bold and rich but soften to a silkiness on the finish. This is bold Cabernet that will benefit with bottle age, but with a little air it's ready to drink and tastes great upon release.
2017 FLAMBEAUX DRY CREEK VALLEY ZINFANDEL
TASTING NOTES: The 2017 Flambeaux Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel offers flavors of bright candied cherries with a dusting of baking spice framed by warm, toasty, cedar box notes. 100% estate grown, Flambeaux Wine's first vintage of Zin strikes a wonderful balance between fresh and rich.
