Mayacama Golf Club cordially invites you to participate in Golf’s oldest format by competing in the 19th Playing of the Mayacama Cup Match Play Championships. The Mayacama Cup is one of two “Medal” Championships played at Mayacama Golf Club where the Champions receive the coveted Sterling Silver Championship Medal and an invitation to the Annual Champions Dinner.
CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: Match Play – 18 Hole Matches
(Except for Men’s Championship Flight Final, which will be a 36-hole Match played in one day).
CHAMPIONSHIP ELIGIBILITY: Open to all Golf Members in good standing of Mayacama Golf Club. Players MUST have an established current USGA Handicap Index to compete for Net Prizes.
SCHEDULE OF MATCHES / STARTING TIMES: Starting times listed on the schedule of events are approximate and will be determined once entries close and matches have been determined. All Matches shall start at the time set by the Championship Committee.
- Men’s Mayacama Flight: First Round Matches will begin on Thursday, September 3 at 8:00 am
- Men’s Championship Flight: First Round Matches will begin on Friday or Saturday, 4 or 5 September depending on the size of the field.
- Women’s Mayacama Flight: First Round Matches will begin on Friday or Saturday, 4 or 5 September depending on the size of the field.
- Sunday – September 6: Semi-Final Matches for All Flights
- Monday – September 7: Final Matches for All Flights
CADDIES: Currently Caddies are not required. Should you wish to reserve a Caddie, please check the appropriate box on the entry form or call the Mayacama Caddie Office at 707-569-2911. Caddie Fees are not included in your entry.
GOLF CARS: Mayacama Golf Club was founded as a “walking only” golf club and accordingly we request that all players in the Championship respect this custom and walk during these matches. However, because of precautionary measures, the use of golf cars (single riders) is currently being permitted and will be available on a limited basis. Priority will be given to those players who are over the age of 65 or who are physically unable to walk the golf course. You may reserve your golf car by checking the appropriate box on your entry form, or by calling the Golf Shop at 707-569-2915. Golf Car Fees are not included in your entry.
WALKING / CARRYING / TROLLEYS: Players will be permitted to walk and carry their Clubs or utilize a trolley in this Championship.
AWARDS PRESENTATION: Per Covid-19 protocols restricting gatherings of any size, we will not be conducting our normal Awards Presentation and Champions Toast on the Putting Green on Monday following the final matches. Our Champions will be acknowledged on the Championship website and in the Mayacama Connection.
FLIGHTS
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHT: The Men’s Championship Flight will be played at scratch. Maximum entries for the Championship Flight will be 16 players. If more than 16 entries are received for the Championship Flight, the 15 entrants with the lowest Handicap Indexes will be selected, along with the current Champion, Chris Qvale, if entered. Otherwise, the field will be determined by the 16 entrants with the lowest Handicap Indexes. All matches in the Championship Flight shall be played from the Back Tee Markers.
MEN’S MAYACAMA FLIGHT: Determines the Men’s Handicap Match Play Champion and is played with full Course Handicap. The maximum Handicap for the Men’s Mayacama Flight is 24 strokes. Maximum entries for the Mayacama Flight will be 32 players and will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Players will be seeded based on a blind draw with the exception of the current Champion, Paul Puccioni, who if entered, shall receive the #1 seed. All matches in the Men’s Mayacama Flight shall be played from the Middle Tee Markers.
WOMEN’S MAYACAMA FLIGHT: Determines the Women’s Match Play Champion and is played with full Course Handicap. The maximum Handicap for the Women’s Flight is 36 strokes. Maximum number of entries for the Women’s Flight will be 16 players and will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Players will be seeded based on a blind draw with the exception of the current Champion, Karen Valliere, who if entered, shall receive the #1 seed. All matches in the Women’s Flight shall be played from the Forward Tee Markers.
HANDICAP INFORMATION: The Championship Committee will be using your current USGA Handicap Index as of September 1, 2020.
PAIRINGS: All entrants will be paired for matches, or assigned first round byes, as soon as the entry deadline of 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2020 has passed. Pairings will be posted in the Golf Shop at approximately 5:00pm on Monday, August 31, 2020. It is the player’s responsibility to contact the Golf Shop for this information.
EXTENDING A TIED MATCH: If a match is tied after the final hole, the match is extended one hole at a time until there is a winner. An extended match is a continuation of the same round and not a new round. The holes are played in the same order as in the round, and handicap strokes will be allowed as in the prescribed match.
PRIZES: All Flight Winners will be honored by receiving their own Championship Cup replica, a Commemorative Championship Plaque, Championship Medal, and have their names engraved on their respective Championship Trophy and Champion’s Board; both of which are on permanent display in the Mayacama Clubhouse. Flight runners-up will receive the "silver salver". All other prizes will be in the form of gift certificates.
ENTRY FEE: The entry fee for this Championship is $100 per Member. Entry fees include all Championship Awards. Caddie fees and Golf Car fees are not included.
ENTRY CLOSING: All entries must be received no later than 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2020.
Cancellations received after the Match Play Draw has been posted by the Committee will forfeit their Entry Fee.
