To Our Mayacama Members,

We appreciate your patience as we continue with our research into the recovery process of some of our greens following the Spring Aeration. After examination of soil samples taken from each green, we have been able to evaluate those greens which we feel will recover appropriately. Others, specifically the 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 7th, along with our practice putting green near the first tee will be reestablished with new sod. Accordingly, beginning tomorrow, Friday April 22, we will close the front nine until the resodding has been completed. Once the sod has been put in place, we will reopen the front nine and will use temporary greens on those newly sodded holes until the sod becomes established.  We estimate that this process may take up to 4 weeks and possibly even longer depending on weather and other factors.  If the sod establishes itself earlier, we will certainly open the golf course at that time.  During the front nine closure, we will offer a reduced guest fee as listed below for those of you who bring guests during this time. We will also offer a reduced guest green fee during the time when temporary greens are being used.

This process will obviously affect our Golf Tournaments scheduled during the month of May. Listed below is a Calendar for the next month, and what effect the recovery process will have on those events:

WOMEN’S GOLF CLINICS / Every Wednesday in May
The maintenance will not affect the complimentary Wednesday Women’s Golf Clinics. They will continue as scheduled each Wednesday during the month of May (9:00 am & 11:00 am). Please call the Golf Shop to sign up.

THE VINTNER CUP / May 14
Because the size of the field in The Vintner Cup field, we would need the full golf course to be available in order to conduct this tournament. Accordingly, we will need to cancel the Golf portion of The Vintner Cup Tournament for this year. The All Vintner Pour will still take place as scheduled in The Courtyard from 4-7 pm, and the back nine will be available all day should you wish to play prior to the All Vintner Pour. The All Vintner Pour is one of the highlights on the Mayacama Calendar and we look forward to seeing you in The Courtyard enjoying wines from our 35 Vintner Members. For those of you who have entered to play in The Vintner Cup, we appreciate your support of this great event and we look forward your participation in another successful Vintner Cup next year.

THE MAYACAMA CUP MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP / May 26 – 30
We expect a return to normal course conditions in time for the Fifteenth Playing of The Mayacama Cup Match Play Championship, and that Championship will be played as scheduled.

We will continue to update you as we receive more information from results of soil and water tests and expected recovery time. In the meantime, we realize this is not an ideal situation for any of us and we apologize for the inconvenience.  With that said, we appreciate your support during this recovery period. It is indeed a stressful time for us all to see this setback of our most treasured asset, yet we are confident that it will return better than before.

Sincerely,

Mayacama Golf Club
