Celebrating Jeff McCarthy

After nearly a decade as Wine Director at Mayacama,
Jeff McCarthy is set to retire by the end of August. We couldn't be more grateful for his time here and all he has done for our Members. Jeff has a passion for wine that is unparalleled, and that passion has helped to shape the incredible wine program at our Club.

Before joining the team back in January 2010, he spent 15 years at Young’s Market Company in the Estate Group, buying and selling fine wines. His career in wine and hospitality started in college, working in restaurant and hotel management, where he assisted in opening the Atlanta Marriot Marquis in 1985.

When asked what he has enjoyed most about Mayacama, he responded with an emphatic, "the Members! The Members here are some of the best people I've ever met. I'm incredibly proud to have helped build their wine cellars, provide wine education, and become their friend over the years.”

Jeff has made many significant contributions to the Club. One of his proudest accomplishments is developing the All Vintner Pour into the event you know and love today. Some other highlights include the numerous wine dinners and First Friday pours, and especially the Antinori and Billecart-Salmon wine dinners.

He plans to enjoy a relaxing retirement while still working on a few personal wine projects. Jeff looks forward to spending more time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, but he knows this isn't goodbye, and looks forward to seeing Members around the Club.
