Four Flights of Members enjoyed the new format in this year’s Mayacama Member-Member.
For the Men’s Flights, the flights were made up of 6 two-man teams, and each team played one nine-hole match against every team in their flight. The goal is to win as many holes over the five 9-hole matches. But this year, we added Foursome (Alternate Shot) and Single Matches to the mix. So on Day One, Match Number One was a Four-Ball Match (better ball of two), followed by a Foursome (Alternate Shot) Match and finally another Four-Ball Match. Members loved inserting the Foursome Match into the mix, especially since it took less than two hours to complete! Day Two Matches began with another Four-Ball Match and the fifth and final Match ended with two Singles Matches, where twice the number of points were available. This made it particularly exciting since teams could rise out of the mix and play their way back into contention for the title.
The Women’s Flight consisted of 7 teams and while they also player Four-Ball, Foursome and Singles, their format was Stroke Play using the Stableford Point System … same as the Women’s Member-Guest.
All Flight Winners competed in a 4-hole Alternate Shot “Shoot’Out” to determine the Overall Champion. First team eliminated was the Third Flight Champions Dwight Haldan and Neil Foster on the first hole, the par three 11th. The three remaining teams went to the 12th and the Women’s Flight, unfortunately, went down on that hole for the second year in a row when. The Second Flight advanced to the final hole with a par while Peggy Matsuda and Lisa French of the Women’s Flight lost out in a “chip-off” with the winners of the First Flight. Down to two teams, The First Flight team of Russell Kinnier and Armando Anido made par on the 18th, the final hole of the Shoot-Out and advanced over Gabe Donohoe and John Jack.
In addition to the revised format, we also added a Vintner Pour type reception on Friday evening. Chef Pikey created some new and tasteful selections that were complimented by Wines poured by Allen Wines, Black Kite Cellars, Fisher Vineyards and Stuhlmuller.
Our Member Member is a celebration of our Club and you … our Members, and we hope to have more of you come and experience the event and meet new and old Members alike with some friendly competition, great food and great wine!
