Mayacama Members,
As you may be aware, my tenure as the Locker Room Supervisor at Mayacama has come to an end. Many of you may say “You can’t leave” while others may think “It’s about time”. Whatever your opinion, retirement is a bittersweet time for me.
In February 2004, my wife and I came out to California visit her cousin and husband who had property in the Sierra foothills. During our stay we visited Yosemite, headed over to Bodega Bay, and a couple days in San Francisco before flying back to Minnesota only to wake up the next morning to 6”-8” of snow. This got my wife and I wondering if there might be any business opportunities for us to pursue in the greater Sonoma County area. My wife had been the Pastry Chef at the Club back in Minnesota, so I went on the hunt for a Bakery/Coffee Shop that was available. After a couple months we found the ideal spot in Inverness Park on the way to the Pt. Reyes lighthouse. Our offer was accepted, and my wife and daughter came out in early May to open the Bakery. I sold our house and joined them in November.
In January of 2005 I came accross an ad for the Locker Room Supervisor position at Mayacama. I replied, sent in my resume and interviewed later that month. I received a phone call offering me the position.... and as they say, “The rest is history”.
It has been both a pleasure and an honor to work with such an outstanding staff and I will certainly miss that comradery. I thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at Mayacama and made many acquaintances and friends along the way. I want to thank the many Members I have proudly served over the past 18 years. I want to especially thank the Wilhelm family for having their faith in allowing me to serve this magnificent Club called Mayacama.
It was a great run, and I wouldn’t change the experience for anything.
With all good wishes.
Cheers,
Rick Pool |
