ALL ABOUT JUNIOR GOLF
The PGA Jr. League is a group of local golf teams who play a series of games against each other, using a fun two-person scramble format. The program is available to boys and girls of all skill levels, so sign your children up and let's have a great showing of Mayacama kids in the PGA Jr. League! It's a great learning experience as PGA and LPGA Professionals serve as captains and provide instruction as the teams prepare for competitions.

League: There are four teams in our League. Mayacama Golf Club, The Fountaingrove Club, Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club, and Windsor Golf Club.
Eligibility: PGA Jr. League is open to all boys and girls, 13 & under. The recommended minimum age is 9, however many Captains permit younger players to participate. A player cannot be 14 years of age prior to August 1 of the year in which he or she participates. Golf is a game for all. Players of all abilities are welcome!
Game: A game is played between two teams. During the course of a game, four matches are played by at least two players from each team against each other. The winner of the game is determined by the total number of points won within all matches. Friends, family, and spectators are encouraged to attend and watch – but not participate or aide – each game!
Format: During the course of one game, teams play four 9-hole matches in a popular two-person scramble format, reinforcing the team concept and creating a nurturing environment for learning the game. Coaches can substitute players every three holes, so that all of the golfers on each team can participate.
Flags: Flags are 3-hole segments of each match. Since each match is played over the course of 9 holes, there are three flags per match. Whichever team wins the most holes within each flag, wins the corresponding flag.
Points: Each flag won by the team is worth one point. Each tied flag won by the team is worth a half point. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Since there are four matches in each game, and each match is played for a maximum of three points, there are a maximum of 12 points total in each game.
Team: A team is a collection of eight to twelve players, boys and girls of any ability, who work together during the course of a game against another team.
Substitutes: Due to PGA Jr. League Golf’s recreational nature, every player on the team is encouraged to participate. While each match is only actively played by two players from each team at any given time, the team Captain may substitute a player into the match at the start of any flag. When the player is not one of the two active players in his or her team’s match, they can still play an integral role in the success of their team by reading putts, discussing strategy, tending the flag stick and aiding pace of play. At no time should a substitute ever feel left out of the team’s efforts!
Women's Golf Clinics
Your Professional Staff is pleased to conduct a series of complimentary Golf Clinics designed specifically for Women. The clinics will be held every Thursday during the month of May with the exception of May 24 during the Mayacama Cup Match Play. This series of golf clinics will cover all aspects of the game including short game techniques, full swing, club fitting, golf etiquette, rules of golf, and general golf customs. Clinics are open to players of all levels.
The Clinics are scheduled at 10a.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. We will use our short game section of the driving range (the west end of the driving range), so please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to allow for enough time to transport to the clinic location.

Ball Marks … It’s the Player’s Responsibility!
A word about Ball Marks on our perfect putting surfaces. We often have Members stopping in the Golf Shop after a round and commenting on the number of Ball Marks that they repair on the greens. Often the caddies are referenced as a potential solution to the problem. However we want to stress that it is also the RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PLAYER TO REPAIR THEIR PITCH MARKS. I know that personally I always want to find my own pitch mark because I want to see where my ball landed and how much it releases after first striking the green. This is important feedback that a player should be aware of. More often than not, a caddie in the group has already repaired the pitch mark before I arrive at the green. Still I want to see it to see how the ball reacted. And while caddies are required at Mayacama the majority of the time, there are windows where Members can play without a caddie. So again … it’s the player's responsibility to repair their pitch mark (and one more). And the reminder doesn’t stop here. There’s a correct way to repair a pitch mark, and a wrong way! And the wrong way often does more damage than if the mark and been left unrepaired.
Click here for a short video on the correct method for repairing ball marks. And a disclaimer … this video is about ball marks and not proper golf attire!
Thank you for doing your part in keeping our quality putting surfaces in the condition that we all have grown accustomed to.
