Miner Family Winery
Following a number of years spent working in the software industry, Dave Miner got his start in wine in 1993 as President of Oakville Ranch Vineyards, owned by his late uncle, Robert Miner. Having spent years as an enthusiastic wine consumer and collector, Dave had a natural affinity for the business. Dave, worked as President of Oakville Ranch, decided to become a custom crush client and started his own wine label. In 1996, the Miner Family Winery brand was born. In 1999, Dave and Emily purchased the winery building from his family and the first Miner Family wines where released.
Each wine at Miner is crafted in a style to encapsulate the distinctive elements and the indelible fingerprints of their respective vineyards. They have sought and secured a number of California’s finest vineyard sites, but only those allowing complete farming control. It is this level of detail and control, from vine to wine, that ensures a wine’s consistency and quality. Their relationships with these owners and farmers are paramount to all they do.
The Wines
2015 Viognier, California
Aromatically complex with citrus and honeysuckle notes on the nose and a plush feel on the palate, our Viognier consistently displays a fine balance of neutral acidity and intense concentration. This quintessential food wine was whole cluster pressed and stainless steel fermented to allow the vibrant, tropical and stone fruit characteristics of this varietal to shine.
2012 Chardonnay, Wild Yeast, Napa Valley
Full-bodied and lush, yet never heavy, the Wild Yeast Chardonnay shows off flavors of ripe pear and melon with butterscotch and hazelnut notes balanced by oak spice and bright acidity. This is a wildly expressive wine that will reward a few years of patient cellaring. The grapes are fermented using only indigenous or “wild” yeast cultures found on the skins of the grapes themselves, in the vineyards and within the walls of the winery.
2013 Pinot Noir, Gary’s Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands
This 50 acre vineyard was planted in 1995 by friends and growers Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni along the terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, overlooking the Salinas River Valley. With plenty of lovely, rich tannins, this Pinot offers up flavors of dark red fruit, subtle oak and nutmeg-clove spice.
2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Emily’s, Napa Valley
Emily’s is Miner’s eponymous offering in remembrance of Emily Miner, co-founder of Miner Family Winery. This blend is as expressive and elegant as our muse.
They honor her by crafting a decadent and rich wine layered with aromas of black fruit and hints of mocha, espresso and toasted oak. Truly iconic Napa Valley wine for a truly iconic woman.
2012 Oracle, Napa Valley Red Wine
Miner’s flagship wine, a full-bodied, single vineyard red blend, grants a nod toward elegance for the 2012 vintage. This Bordeaux-style blend is silky, reserved and supremely balanced. Lush aromatics of raspberry and dark cherry with a hint of eucalyptus, The Oracle is decadent, but with finesse. Earthiness and layers of dried flowers and cocoa integrate harmoniously into a finely balanced marriage between tannin and acid, providing the structure that ensures, like all impeccable beauties, this wine is sure to age gracefully.
2013, Cabernet Sauvignon, Benedetto
The Miner Benedetto Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon is collaboration between jazz guitar aficionado and vintner Dave Miner and world-renowned guitar craftsman Robert Benedetto of Benedetto Guitars. Decant and drink this lushly textured mountain-grown fruit now or cellar for up to 15 years. Limited release.
