Sauvignon Blanc

One of my favorite summer wines is Sauvignon Blanc. The grape is naturally high in acidity and has a backbone of citrus that is just wonderful on a beautiful summer day. It is one of the most widely planted grape varietals in the world and shows remarkable range.

Primary flavors of Sauvignon Blanc are lime, green apple, passion fruit, and white peach. What makes Sauvignon Blanc unique from other white wines are some of its other flavors like bell pepper, Jalapeno, gooseberry, and grass. Terroir, farming techniques and ripeness at harvest all help determine the flavors and style of the finished product.

Summer means grilling, salads, outdoors, and warm weather. With our Sauvignon Blanc offer we feature a wine for every type of meal and occasion. The wine is also refreshing on a hot day due to the absence of oak and makes for a perfect afternoon by the pool. The wines are also a great value. Enjoy!

THE WINES

2013 Armida Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley
The Estate Sauvignon Blanc is grown in the cool fog-influenced Russian River Valley giving the wine rich tropical fruit flavors balanced by a minerality and backbone of citrus fruits. Aromas of feijoa, mandarin and gooseberry precede the kiwi-fruit, apple and lemon sorbet flavors on the pallet. Enjoy this wine on the porch by itself, as an aperitif with cheese appetizers, or paired with shellfish dishes.

2012 Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc shows fresh, vivid aromas that literally leap out of the glass with aromas of fresh-cut white grapefruit, gooseberry, lime and kiwi, and ripe honeydew melon, along with spice and vanilla scents. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine’s ripe grapefruit, guava, melon, green apple and mineral flavors are remarkably rich, intense, concentrated and vibrant, with a long, full finish packed with fresh fruit and mineral/chalky tones.

2012 Chalk Hill, Chalk Hill
The Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc is long on richness and concentration. It displays the structure and elegance of a cool growing season. The nose is stuffed with pineapple, lychee, pear, orange blossom and thyme. The palate is all lemon, grapefruit, mango, and blood orange. The wine was stirred on the lees for richness and shows just a touch of oak for complexity. It finishes firm and crisp.

2013 Hauck Cellars, Coronation Vineyard, Russian River Valley
The 2013 Hauck Cellars Sauvignon Blanc is aged in both stainless steel for freshness, and neutral oak for complexity. The wine is stirred on the lees (batonage) to give it a creamier, fuller mouth flavor, but the wine still maintains its crispy edge. The wine shows aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple and peach that float along toward a bright, crisp finish. The wine is extremely limited and Mayacama is one of only two accounts that will be pouring the wine this year.

2012 Wattle Creek Sauvignon Blanc
The Wattle Creek 2012 Sauvignon Blanc is an intensely aromatic wine that can span a wide range of aroma profiles. The wine shows aromas of tropical fruit, ruby red grapefruit and citrus rind with notes of spear mint, anise and dry herbs. The flavors crisp and focused while the mouth feel is delicate and smooth.

2013 White Oak Sauvignon Blanc
The wine shows aromatic notes of nectarine and citrus zest with a hint of cotton candy. The flavors develop into Asian pear and Mandarin orange with an integrated bit of flinty minerality on the palate. The wine finishes with bright fruit and firm acidity.
