Things have been very busy this month as we hosted the Annual Club Championships, Junior Golf School and are now preparing for our annual Labor Day festivities. Be sure to sign up for the Sip 'N' Swing, the Labor Day Family Feast and Pool BBQs this weekend. It's going to be nice and warm so come out and celebrate summer's last hurrah with activities for everyone in the family!

As a courtesy reminder, the Club will be closed on Monday, September 11 due to a Private Golf Tournament. In lieu of this, the Club will be open for regular usage and service on Tuesday, September 12. Also we are hosting several weddings during the month of September, so please be sure to book your dinner reservations early on those weekends!

SIP 'N' SWING
Friday, SEPTEMBER 1
4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Join us for this fun, casual golf event. Open to Social Members and guests. Our Sip 'N' Swing event begins with a 4:00 pm shotgun start, followed by a dinner buffet on the Dining Room Terrace.

The format for this event is a six-person, 9-hole scramble. Make your own team of six or sign up individually and we will pair you with a group.

Participants will enjoy a specialty cocktail and sip summer wines on some of the holes. Even if you aren't able to play in the Sip 'N' Swing, make plans to meet up with the players and enjoy a fun dinner buffet.

Annual Championships of Mayacama Golf Club RECAP

EXBER CLAIMS FOURTH TITLE
National Member Brady Exber led wire to wire to claim his fourth Mayacama Club Championship Title. Exber opened the Championship with a pair of 74’s, followed by a one over par 73 to finish the Championship at +5 for the three rounds. Paul Balatti, a five-time Club Champion finished runner-up with scores of 81-76-75 for a total of 232. John Hamm finished strong with a 76 to finish third.

In addition to his Mayacama win, Exber was also honored earlier in the year by being named as a member of the National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame and has a long list of accomplishments in the game, including the British Senior Amateur Championship in 2014 and the 2014 Golfweek Senior Player of the Year. Following his win at Mayacama, Exber heads to Minneapolis and the historic Minikahda Golf Club to compete in the US Senior Amateur Championship, his 36th USGA Championship as a competitor!

FEENEY HELD OFF THE FIELD FOR FIRST MAYACAMA TITLE
Mike Feeney finished strong with a net 69 and a three-day net total of +5 221 Strokes for his first Mayacama Flight Club Championship title. Playing in the penultimate group, Feeney was three over par through the 17th until making an unfortunate double-bogey 7 at the last hole. Then all he could do was wait and watch as the final pairing of John Reininga, Paul Puccioni and Gabe Donohoe followed. All three were within reach, but Reininga and Puccioni both finished with pars, one shot short of Feeney. Defending Champion Gabe Donohoe had victory in sight until his approach to the 18th flew over the green and ended up in high native rough. After a lengthy ruling, Donohoe decided to take an unplayable lie and played a great shot to the green, only to three-putt and finish one back of Feeney along with Reininga and Puccioni. With so many players so close, it’s proof that the handicap system works! Feeney will now join his wife Tina, the 2017 Mayacama Cup Champion at the Champions Dinner in 2018…the first husband and wife to be honored at the prestigious event.

LISA FRENCH ADDS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SECOND MAYACAMA TITLE
Lisa French fired an even par net total of 74-70 144 to win her first Mayacama Flight Women’s Club Championship. This is her second title, having previously won the Mayacama Cup Match Play Championship in 2013. The Women’s Mayacama Flight Runner-up was Defending Champion Laura Allen (78-80 156) and one back and tied for third was Mayumi Post and Carol Hansel.

EMILY O’KEEFFE WINS 2017 WOMEN'S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
National Member Emily O’Keeffe wins her first Mayacama Title by capturing the Championship Flight of the Women’s 2017 Club Championship! A Sebastopol native now living in Pacific Palisades, O’Keeffe put her local knowledge and her patience to good use. After a tough start on Sunday, Emily settled into a rhythm and finished strongly, playing the final six holes at one over par…her lone bogey during that stretch coming from the par three 17th. O’Keeffe finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Susan Wayman, with 2016 Women’s Club Champion Mayumi Post finishing third.

JUNIOR GOLF SCHOOL RECAP

This year marked the Second Annual Junior Golf School at Mayacama. Instructors Zach Makilan, Chelsa Helget, Hayden Stratton, and Edward Mason were joined by 17 juniors to learn more about the game. The students learned proper golf etiquette and technique before taking their game to the “big” course to enjoy a modified 3-hole layout where they played a friendly scramble. We hope to see all of our Junior Golf Students back next year.

VILLA CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

We are making good progress with our first phase of construction! We have one foundation completed with floor joists going in, and we are preparing to pour another foundation in the next few weeks for another unit. These are all very exciting next steps and as we get ready for fall we will start to see some of these units go vertical and begin framing! We will continue to update you on the progress and as always, we appreciate your patience on and off the golf course while we are in the middle of construction.
