MEMBER-MEMBER RESULTS
Member-Member Champions Stephen & Mike Wright
We had five full flights competing in the 2018 Member-Member Tournament. The 30 teams played five 9-hole matches over two days, with the Flight Winners advancing to the Shoot-Out, which determines the Overall Champions. Just like for our Men’s Member-Guest, the flight winners play holes #10, #11, #12, & #18 with one team eliminated on each hole. The first team to depart the Shoot-Out was Rob McKay and Ed Dobranski on the 10th, with Jonathan Wilhelm and Chris Qvale to follow on the 11th. Father & Son duo Jim and Scott Silveira advanced to the final hole with a par at the 12th, but the final spot had to be decided by a shoot-out after Women’s Flight Winners Mary Schuh and Debra Knick tied Mike and Stephen Wright with 5’s. After surviving the Shoot-Out, the battle for the Member-Member Championship came down to two Father and Son teams. Wright and Wright made birdie and the 2017 Parent-Child Champions added to their legacy by claiming the 2018 Member-Member Championship Title!
Women’s Flight Champions – Mary Schuh & Debra Knick
First Flight Champions – Mike & Stephen Wright
Second Flight Champions – Chris Qvale & Jonathan Wilhelm
Third Flight Champions – Jim & Scott Silveira
Fourth Flight Champions – Rob McKay & Ed Dobranski
PARENT-CHILD RESULTS
This year in the Parent-Child Tournament, we hosted our largest 9-Hole Division ever! 10 Teams competed for the 9-hole division title, playing a Modified Foursome format. Teams had to shoot under par to place. With a one stroke margin of victory, congratulations Stephen and Henry Barker, our 2018 Parent-Child Champions in the 9 Hole Division.
18 Holes wasn’t enough to determine our 2018 Parent-Child Champions. Robert Pang and Stephen Grant tied with Tom and Thomas Fickinger for the lowest gross score. The two teams played off on the #19th hole, a modified 100 yard par 3. After the teams halved the first playoff hole, Stephen Grant delivered a classy wedge shot to tap in distance to capture the win. Congratulations Robert Pang and Stephen Grant! Our Net Champions this year are Tina Feeney and Aaron Johnson, with a great score of 64!

WOMEN’S MAYACAMA FLIGHT CHAMPION: DEBRA KNICK - 152 strokes
CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW
To identify the Champion Golfers of Mayacama Golf Club, we adopt the Stroke Play format. 54 holes of Stroke Play for the Men and 36 Holes for the Women (that goes to 54 holes in 2019) is certainly a grind, and it takes a great deal of stamina and mental toughness to overcome the inevitable bad hole that is likely over 2 or three rounds … not for the faint of heart!
In the Men’s Championship Division, played from the Back Tee Markers, the course measures just under 6,800 yards. Yet it always seems to play just a bit longer for the 6 players competing in this year’s Championship Flight. Congratulations to Chris Qvale for his three-day total of +8, which earns him the prestigious title of “Mayacama Golf Club Champion Golfer of the Year”. This year’s Runner-Up, finishing 5 strokes back is Mark Martin.
In the Women’s Championship, Mayumi Post added her name to the Champions Board for the 5th time, with three Mayacama Flight Titles and the 2016 and now 2018 Championship Flight Medals adding to her collection. Finishing 8 strokes back is this year’s Championship Flight Runner Up Sonja Pang.
In the Women’s Mayacama Flight, Debra Knick claimed her first title and a seat at the Champions Dinner with a net score of 75-77 152. Finishing just two strokes back was Laura Allen.
In the Men’s Mayacama Flight, Stephen Wright will be adding his name to the prestigious list of Champions Dinner invitees after his three round total of even par 216 (72-71-73) resulted in his first Mayacama Championship. And the Mayacama Flight kept it in the family with Runner-Up Mike Wright finishing five strokes back at 221.
40 players competed in the 2018 Championship. The Course set-up was challenging for the players and course conditions were ideal for scoring, with the fairways and greens playing firm and fast … just like we like them!
Here is a summary of the average scores for each flight:
Men’s Championship Flight (Gross Scores): 79.22 Strokes
Men’s Mayacama Flight (Net Scores): 78.90 Strokes
Women’s Mayacama Flight (Net Scores): 79.94 Strokes
Of the 40 Players competing in all divisions of the 2018 Championship over 111 rounds , one player broke par with a round of 71.
Of the 93 rounds played on a net basis, seven rounds were played under net par, with 5 more played at net even par.

SPA SPECIAL
As the first day of Autumn quickly approaches, we encourage you to prepare a transition of mind and body from outward achievement to inward reflection and healing. Not only do we harvest what we’ve grown in our gardens during the summer, but we also “reap what we’ve sowed” in regards to what we put our bodies and minds through during the last few months. Summer is a time of physical exertion, energy and heat dominance. Autumn is our time to slow down, cool off, and replenish depleted energy.
Stop by the Spa for a rejuvenating massage or facial, sit and enjoy a cup of loose leaf organic tea and allow the calming environment to serenade you into the season change. To help encourage a state of pure bliss, we’d like to offer you 50% OFF any Extravagant Enhancement for the month of September! We look forward to your visit.
*Subject to availability. One addition per treatment and must be booked in conjunction with a treatment.
