The Annual Championships Results

As we celebrate 20 years of our Club, it is only fitting that we showcase the 21st Playing of the Annual Championships of Mayacama Golf Club. 54 holes of stroke play determine the four Champions…Men’s and Women’s Mayacama Flight Champions are played with full handicaps, and Men’s and Women’s Championship Flights play off scratch with the lowest score earning the title of Mayacama Champion Golfer of the Year. That prestigious title this year goes to Dean Park of Healdsburg, who finished with a score of 229 (76–77–76). Finishing four strokes back and claiming the runner-up spot is San Francisco’s Andrew Slusser with a score of 333 (78–78–77).

Emily O’Keeffe of Sebastopol successfully defended her title as Mayacama Women’s Champion with a score of 248 (83–81–84). The Runner Up is Amy Lynch of Los Altos who finished with a score of 267.

Another successful title defense was Alamo’s Ignacio del Rio at 211 (69–70–72), who held off late-charging Bob Valliere of Santa Rosa, who finished one stroke back at 212 (70–74–68). San Francisco’s David Murray finished two back of del Rio at 3-under par 213 (70–73–70).

Santa Rosa’s Laura Allen returns to the podium after claiming the Women’s Mayacama Flight title with a score of 232 (80–79–73) and a one stroke victory over last year’s Champion Jocelyn Neff.

42 players competed for the coveted Championship Medals and a seat at the Champions Dinner, held annually on the eve of the Championship. The Annual Championships of Mayacama is one of two Medal Events and the most prestigious title one can hold at our Club. Congratulations to all of the players who competed in the 21st Playing of The Annual Championships of Mayacama Golf Club.

Mayacama's Gavin Aurillia Wins Junior World

Congratulations to Mayacama Junior Golf Program Member Gavin Aurillia, who won the Boys 15-18 Division last month at the IMG Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines. Aurillia finished at 3-under 281 with rounds of 72-72-66-72 and a four stroke victory over Matthew Broder of Phoenix, Arizona. The Junior World Golf Championship was founded in 1968 with the goal of bringing young golfers from all parts of the world together in hopes of achieving a greater understanding among people of differing cultures and values through the game of golf. The 215 player field in the Boys 15-18 Division of the 2021 Junior World represented 29 different countries.

Gavin and his brother Chaz have been Members of Mayacama’s Junior Golf Program for the past several years. The Mayacama Junior Program is an invitation-only program that provides junior players with the opportunity to play and practice at Mayacama until they reach college age. If they continue their playing career at the NCAA level, an extension to the program is granted for the duration of their college career. Gavin will be entering his freshman year as a Member of the USC Trojans Golf Team. Chaz is a sophomore on the PAC-12 Golf Champion Arizona Wildcats. Another Junior Golf Program Member Abby Leighton begins her collegiate career next month as a Freshman on the UC Davis Women’s Golf Team.

We are proud of all of our Junior Golf Program Members and look forward to following their NCAA Collegiate Golf Career. Should you know of a Junior Golfer that you would like to invite to be a Member of the Mayacama Junior Golf Program, please contact Zach Makilan or Brooks Bultemeier in the Golf Shop.
