Mayacama Summer Camp 2016

Hello Campers,

We would like to invite and warmly welcome new and returning Campers to join us for all the activities we have planned for 2016! This summer will be full of some of your old favorites as well as some new activities we’ve never had before. With prior notice, tennis and/or swimming clinics may be added before or after themed camps and field trips for additional fun. We’re also bringing back the classic camp called “Summer Fun” on most Mondays through Thursdays, but this year we’ve added a set craft or activity such as beaded animals, soap and candle making, outdoor games, and fine art to name a few.

This year we’re also trying something new. On top of the already planned summer camp schedule, we encourage you to let us set up any camps or activities your family will enjoy during your stay. Our goal for this summer is for parents and kids to really plan out what they want to do while on property making a more custom camp experience. There is no date or time of day that is off limits to camp or activities so please let us work around your golf, wine tasting, massage, or just plain no kids relaxation time.

Even before Camp Mayacama officially begins on June 13, you will see that we have planned lots of additional activities and Kids’ Nights for you to sign up for! This includes annual themed events on key holidays such as Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, and Christmas. Browse through this camp schedule and see how many different events you can attend. With such a huge variety to choose from, there is something for everyone on most days throughout the year!

In order to participate in any or all of these activities, have your parents call me, email me, or log on to the Members Only Website and register you to join in on the fun, friends, thrills, intrigue, and excitement all summer long!

We are pleased to announce the addition of The Mayacama Junior Golf Camp to the calendar for 2016! This new Golf School is designed to supplement, not replace our popular Junior Golf Boot Camp (July 27-29). The June version of the Junior Golf Camp will have some similarities to the Boot Camp, but will offer different drills, games and fun as well. Registration will be limited to the first 30 Juniors (ages 5 – 10) who enter. Entry fee includes all tee prizes (including a pair of FootJoy shoes, socks, and gloves), lunches, instruction, and other prizes.

GLASS FUSION WORKSHOP FIELD TRIP

We will travel to the studio of Jennifer Balletto in Sebastopol to explore the world of glass fusion. Referred to as “warm glass”, glass fusion is one of the oldest forms of glass making. Instead of blowing the glass, kilns are used to make the glass molten. Each piece begins with hand-cut, broken, pulled, and ground pieces of glass. These pieces of glass are then designed in a layered manner and through a series of firings (temperatures ranging from 1,200-1,500 degrees) a new piece of glass is formed. Glass is an extraordinary medium for artistic expression; you won’t believe your eyes when you see the amazing projects that your child will produce in this workshop. Projects will be available for pick-up the following week or shipped upon request.

KidVets and Dr. Pam Wittenberg, who has over 25 years of experience in the field of veterinary medicine, will provide an in-depth exploration of all things veterinary. Children learn how veterinarians interact with their patients and how they use science, math, and their observational skills to help pets recover from illnesses and stay healthy. Scientific models, demonstrations, and live animal guests make for a rich, hands-on experience that brings science and veterinary medicine to life for future vets and animal lovers. Learn to loose arrows down by the pool at Mayacama! An adventurous two-day camp for kids to learn strength, focus, and most of all have fun! There will be two instructors, lunch at the pool, and plenty of time to sharpen your skills and hit the mark. We will also play a game of flying disc shooting! At the end of two fun filled days, receive a certificate as a young toxophilite (lover of archery). Maximum 10 archers, so be sure to sign up soon!

Join local makeup artist extraordinaire Stephanie Collette, a local videographer, and me, for three days of filmmaking, special effects, and fun. Campers will produce their very own movie clip and receive a DVD of their work. Our videographer will capture your best acting moments and edit the film to show off your special effect ideas. Stephanie will transform you into the creature of your choice with her skills in special effects makeup. Participation in all three days of this camp is recommended. Finished projects will be available for pick-up the following week or mailed upon request.

You’ll get up-close and personal as you watch thousands of Mrs. Grossman’s stickers and elegant labels being printed, die-cut, and perforated. Your tour guide will tell you fascinating sticker history stories and little-known facts as you stop at the six different work stations: printing, rewinding and finishing, packaging, hot foil stamping and embossing, recycling, and the incredible Laserweb. At the end of the tour we’ll make a one-of-a-kind sticker art project and get our very own stickers to keep!

All Mayacama juniors are invited to join Mayacama Instructors, Ted Antonopoulos, Andrew Black, Zach Makilan, and Chelsa Helget for a three-day golf school, boot camp style! Training is open to all children ages 5 - 10. After basic calisthenics each day, juniors will learn full swing, putting, chipping and pitching techniques, along with golf etiquette and rules of golf. The last day of the camp will include the Putting Championship and 5-Hole Scramble Tournament, followed by an awards luncheon for cadets and their parents. Open to the first 30 cadets who sign up.

With this camp we’ll inspire your budding engineer, future architect, or interior design enthusiast by building a one-of-a-kind woodland house. These houses are as much fun to create as they are to play with later! You can make furniture, swings, chandeliers and anything else you want, all out of natural material and your very own creativity of course! Once complete, your little house will be the perfect home for the woodland creature of your choice, fairy, troll, dragon, or toad. This workshop delights both girls and boys, along with parents who can’t seem to pull themselves away.

You’ll get up-close and personal as you watch thousands of Mrs. Grossman’s stickers and elegant labels being printed, die-cut, and perforated. Your tour guide will tell you fascinating sticker history stories and little-known facts as you stop at the six different work stations: printing, rewinding and finishing, packaging, hot foil stamping and embossing, recycling, and the incredible Laserweb. At the end of the tour we’ll make a one-of-a-kind sticker art project and get our very own stickers to keep!

Join us for a safe and inspirational opportunity to explore the world of fencing, no matter what your skill level. We will join North Bay Fencing Academy instructor Maestro Peter Burchard for four days of exploring standard foil fencing: how to parry, attack, and lunge. Activities include warm-up games, footwork, skill games, fencing instruction, and bouting. All necessary equipment is provided by NBFA and participants will be outfitted in an official fencing uniform: foil, mask, glove, and uniform. This camp is best suited for ages 7 and up but we’ll have enough childcare providers to entertain kids’ of all ages!

GLASS FUSION WORKSHOP FIELD TRIP

We will travel to the studio of Jennifer Balletto in Sebastopol to explore the world of glass fusion. Referred to as “warm glass”, glass fusion is one of the oldest forms of glass making. Instead of blowing the glass, kilns are used to make the glass molten. Each piece begins with hand-cut, broken, pulled, and ground pieces of glass. These pieces of glass are then designed in a layered manner and through a series of firings (temperatures ranging from 1,200-1,500 degrees) a new piece of glass is formed. Glass is an extraordinary medium for artistic expression; you won’t believe your eyes when you see the amazing projects that your child will produce in this workshop. Projects will be available for pick-up the following week or shipped upon request.

Fun for the whole family, this treasure hunt is sure to bring out the pirates in all of us. There will be clues hidden throughout the Clubhouse that will lead you to the treasure of Mayacama. Pirates of all ages are welcome! Parents wishing to do the scavenger hunt with their children may pick up the first clue at the front desk anytime between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Children who will be unaccompanied by their parents can meet in the Kids’ Room at any of the following organized hunt times: 1:00pm, 1:30pm, 2:00pm, 2:30pm, 3:00pm, and the last hunt time at 3:30pm. The hunt time ranges between 30 -45 minutes and is fun for the whole family to get involved!

Throughout the evening, families will enjoy the holiday tradition of decorating a delicious pre-built gingerbread house with tons of frosting, oodles of candy, and a dusting of powdered sugar. This workshop is sure to bring out the creative side in kids of all ages. These sturdy and delicious gingerbread houses stay fresh and tasty for at least a couple of weeks. Each decorated gingerbread house can be taken home to admire through the holidays!
