Hello Campers,

We would like to invite and warmly welcome new and returning Campers to join us for all the activities we have planned for 2017! Summer Camp will be full of your traditional favorites as well as some new activities we’ve never offered before. With prior notice, tennis and/or swimming clinics may be added before or after themed camps and field trips for additional fun. For most camps there will be a discount given to families who bring more than one child so please remember to invite other family members and friends!

In addition to the planned summer camp schedule below, we also offer you the ability to customize any kids’ activity during your stay at Mayacama. There is no date or time of day that is off limits to camp or activities so please let us work around your golf, wine tasting, massage, or just plain no kids relaxation time.

Even before Camp Mayacama officially begins on June 12, you will see that we have planned many additional activities and Kids’ Nights for you to sign up for! This includes annual themed events on key holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, and Christmas. Browse through this camp schedule and see how many different events you can attend; with such a huge variety to choose from and the ability to request a customized camp, I am confident we can accommodate your childcare needs.

SAFARI WEST FIELD TRIP

Join us for an African adventure in the heart of California wine country! We will explore the Sonoma Serengeti on an African wildlife safari alongside romping herds of exotic wildlife. A wide range of birds, reptiles, rodents, carnivores, primates, and many others will show up on our tour, guaranteeing a memorable experience for all ages. Children under the age of 4 are not old enough for the tour but we can have a childcare provider available to make sure they are having a good time. Please sign up with a week’s advance notice due to limited spacing on the tour and we will be leaving promptly at 9:30am to arrive on time for our 10am tour!

WILDLIFE RESCUE FIELD TRIP
Meet at Mayacama Clubhouse Kids’ Play Room
Tuesday, June 13

Please join us for a private tour of the Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue Facility! This is a special opportunity to tour the educational exhibit and meet their wildlife ambassadors. Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue has a team of trained staff and volunteers available to rescue wildlife seven days a week. Using gloves, nets and other safety gear, they are able to safely catch wildlife ranging from hawks and owls to raccoons and coyotes. They provide specialized medical care to over 1,500 animals a year. With the help of their Good Samaritan team of veterinarians, they are able to perform surgeries, nutritional care, detailed exams and much more to give the animals the best chance of survival.

JUNIOR GOLF SCHOOL

We are pleased to bring back the Mayacama Junior Golf Camp to the calendar for 2017! This Golf School is designed to supplement, not replace our popular Junior Golf Boot Camp (July 26-28). The June version of the Junior Golf Camp will have some similarities to the Boot Camp, but will offer different drills, games and fun as well. Registration will be limited to the first 30 Juniors (ages 5 – 10) who enter. Entry fee includes all tee prizes (including a pair of FootJoy shoes, socks, and gloves), lunches, instruction, and other prizes.

After improving our skills, we will organize teams based on age and ability and play some games.

We will travel to the studio of Jennifer Balletto in Sebastopol to explore the world of glass fusion. Referred to as “warm glass”, glass fusion is one of the oldest forms of glass making. Instead of blowing the glass, kilns are used to make the glass molten. Each piece begins with hand-cut, broken, pulled, and ground pieces of glass. These pieces of glass are then designed in a layered manner and through a series of firings (temperatures ranging from 1,200-1,500 degrees) a new piece of glass is formed. Glass is an extraordinary medium for artistic expression; you won’t believe your eyes when you see the amazing projects that your child will produce in this workshop. Projects will be available for pick-up the following week or shipped upon request.

Join us for a day of fast paced racing! Driven Raceway is Northern California’s premiere indoor kart racing facility. Come experience firsthand the European-style racing with the most sophisticated and high speed electric karts available today! Racing has a minimum height of 48” but don’t you little ones worry, there’s plenty for us to stay entertained as well as rooting on our friends racing around the track!

As a family-friendly facility, their focus is on safety first, then fun. If you’ve never tried paintball, their instructors will walk you through every step and answer any questions when we’re there and if you’re already an expert then you can just go at it! This is a camp for children 10 years and up but don’t let that scare away the little ones because our staff will have other activities available down at the pool for those who don’t wish to watch the paintballers run around the course.

Come with us on a journey to Rebounderz Trampoline Park in Rohnert Park! They’ll set us up with our very own jump socks to take home but make sure to wear something comfortable for running around in!

Learn to loose arrows down by the pool at Mayacama! An adventurous two-day camp for kids to learn strength, focus, and most of all have fun! There will be two instructors, lunch at the pool, and plenty of time to sharpen your skills and hit the mark. We will also play a game of flying disc shooting! At the end of two fun filled days, receive a certificate as a young toxophilite (lover of archery). Maximum 10 archers, so be sure to sign up soon! Archers should be at least 5 years of age for safety reasons but we will have plenty of action happening down at the pool for the little ones!

All Mayacama juniors are invited to join Mayacama Instructors, Ted Antonopoulos, Andrew Black, Zach Makilan, and Chelsa Helget for a three-day golf school, boot camp style! Training is open to all children ages 5 - 10. After basic calisthenics each day, juniors will learn full swing, putting, chipping and pitching techniques, along with golf etiquette and rules of golf. The last day of the camp will include the Putting Championship and 5-Hole Scramble Tournament, followed by an awards luncheon for cadets and their parents. Open to the first 30 cadets who sign up.

With this camp we’ll inspire your budding engineer, future architect, or interior design enthusiast by building a one-of-a-kind woodland house. These houses are as much fun to create as they are to play with later! Once complete, your little house will be the perfect home for the woodland creature of your choice, fairy, troll, dragon, or toad. This workshop delights both girls and boys, along with parents who can’t seem to pull themselves away.

We are pleased to announce the addition of The Mayacama Junior Golf Camp to the calendar for 2016! This new Golf School is designed to supplement, not replace our popular Junior Golf Boot Camp (July 27-29). The June version of the Junior Golf Camp will have some similarities to the Boot Camp, but will offer different drills, games and fun as well. Registration will be limited to the first 30 Juniors (ages 5 – 10) who enter. Entry fee includes all tee prizes (including a pair of FootJoy shoes, socks, and gloves), lunches, instruction, and other prizes.

GLASS FUSION FIELD TRIP

We will travel to the studio of Jennifer Balletto in Sebastopol to explore the world of glass fusion. Referred to as “warm glass”, glass fusion is one of the oldest forms of glass making. Instead of blowing the glass, kilns are used to make the glass molten. Each piece begins with hand-cut, broken, pulled, and ground pieces of glass. These pieces of glass are then designed in a layered manner and through a series of firings (temperatures ranging from 1,200-1,500 degrees) a new piece of glass is formed. Glass is an extraordinary medium for artistic expression; you won’t believe your eyes when you see the amazing projects that your child will produce in this workshop. Projects will be available for pick-up the following week or shipped upon request.

Are you ready to develop the fundamental skills needed to capture awe-inspiring images? In this camp we will teach you the basics of using a digital camera including: lighting, shadow, composition, and more, all while exploring the beautiful lands of Mayacama through the lens of a camera. We’ll be down by the pool and may be inspired to do some epic action shots into the water so don’t forget to bring your swimsuit and sunscreen as well as a digital camera, phone, or iPad so you can have the pictured on your own device to check out later or you can borrow a camera from us. All experience levels in photography welcome and who knows, you may just find a new skill and passion!

Join us for a day of fast paced racing! Driven Raceway is Northern California’s premiere indoor kart racing facility. Come experience firsthand the European-style racing with the most sophisticated and high speed electric karts available today! If you plan on racing, you must bring closed toed shoes and have hair pulled back and out of your face. Racing has a minimum height of 48” but don’t you little ones worry, there’s plenty for us to stay entertained as well as rooting on our friends racing around the track!

Join us for a safe and inspirational opportunity to explore the world of fencing, no matter what your skill level. We will join North Bay Fencing Academy instructor Maestro Peter Burchard for four days of exploring standard foil fencing: how to parry, attack, and lunge. Activities include warm-up games, footwork, skill games, fencing instruction, and bouting. All necessary equipment is provided by NBFA and participants will be outfitted in an official fencing uniform: foil, mask, glove, and uniform. This camp is best suited for ages 7 and up but we’ll have enough childcare providers to entertain kids’ of all ages!

Test your fear limits and try not to scream while you work your way through the haunted wine cave with your friends and family, but be warned, it's not for the faint of heart. Costumes are encouraged for all ages and prizes will be given to those who show off their newest look in the Costume Runway Spooktacular. There will be plenty of fun for the adults as well with Dracula's Casino Games where chips can be turned into prizes. Make sure to bring the whole family and don't miss out on the Halloween event of the year!

Fun for the whole family, this treasure hunt is sure to bring out the pirates in all of us. There will be clues hidden throughout the Clubhouse that will lead you to the treasure of Mayacama. Pirates of all ages are welcome! Parents wishing to do the scavenger hunt with their children may pick up the first clue at the front desk anytime between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Children who will be unaccompanied by their parents can meet in the Kids’ Room at any of the following organized hunt times: 1:00pm, 1:30pm, 2:00pm, and the last hunt time at 2:30pm. The hunt time ranges between 20 -30 minutes and is fun for the whole family to get involved!

Throughout the evening, families will enjoy the holiday tradition of decorating a delicious pre-built gingerbread house with tons of frosting, oodles of candy, and a dusting of powdered sugar. This workshop is sure to bring out the creative side in kids of all ages. These sturdy and delicious gingerbread houses stay fresh and tasty for at least a couple of weeks. Each decorated gingerbread house can be taken home to admire through the holidays!

1:30 pm - 2:00 pm LEVEL 1- PRIMARY SKILLS
At this level there is no need for previous water experience. Your child will learn the basics of swimming. This class will work to help your child become comfortable putting their face in the water and blowing bubbles, kicking, retrieving objects from the bottom of the pool (3 feet), back and front float for 10 seconds, stream line with face in water and kicking, and arm strokes with face in the water with good kicking (able to swim 6 yards to move to next level).

2:15 pm - 2:45 pm LEVEL 2- STROKE READINESS
Child should be able to hold their breath (10 seconds), float (10 seconds), and swim with face in water with arm strokes for 6 yards. In this level the child will continue to build on skills. Child will learn to streamline kick on stomach underwater, begin learning side breathing, and be able to perform the front crawl with side breathing (25 yards), streamline kick on back for 12 yards.

3:00 pm - 3:30 pm LEVEL 3- STROKE REFINEMENTS
Child should be able to streamline kick underwater, swim 25 yards, front crawl with good side breathing, and begin learning backstroke and breaststroke. The child will be able to swim 100 yards front crawl with side breathing, 25 yards back stroke, 25 yards breast stroke, retrieve objects from bottom of pool (5 feet), and kneeling dive.
