Cabernet Sauvignon in the price range of $80 to $125 per bottle seems to be the "sweet spot" among Mayacama Members. Our ability to access some outstanding wines and offer them at Mayacama prices makes our list truly special. While the markups at most restaurants are on the extreme side, many of our Cabs and Blends usually sell for $75 to $600 less than their lists and we also strive to have the best retail pricing.

As we approach the fall season, many of our outstanding vintages are beginning to sell out.  Robert Parker gave the 2010 Vintage 95 points and the 2012 Vintage 96 points. To make room for our Fall Releases and to share some great wines with Members at those "sweet spot" prices, I am offering a sort of last call on some great Cabs from these Vintages. In addition, I've added a couple of 2012 Cabs that always sell out quickly! Take a peek...

The "Sweet Spot"

2012 ADAMVS, Teres, Howell Mountain  $125
This wine offers pure blackberry aromas intertwined with subtle notes of anise, dark baker’s spice and forest floor. On the palate, ripe, brambly fruits are gracefully integrated with hints of spiced plum and loganberry. Refreshing acidity and firm tannins add balance and depth, leading to an elegant, cocoa-filled finish. "It starts off at a fine point and expands to fill the palate with rich, silky texture." The winemaker is Phillipe Melka, voted the most influential winemaker in the U.S.  Phillipe is the consultant to many of Napa's great wineries and is only "the winemaker" at ADAMVS and his own winery. He consults for three of the wines on this offer.

2012 Audacieux Cabernet Sauvignon, Oakville  $125
This wine is gentle and elegant in nature and has the qualities you would find in a fine Bordeaux. The tannins are soft while the fruit remains bright mid-palate. The flavors are subtle and not overpowering and the finish is long and includes notes of blackberries and mild tannins. The overall mouth feel is soft and pleasing. This wine would be best enjoyed with any dish that does not overpower the elegant flavors. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon on vineyards located just above Harlan Estate.

2013 Boich Cabernet Sauvignon, Wall Road, Mt Veeder  $125
Ripe fresh fruit aromas of blackberry and black cherry along with notes of sweet herbs and baking spices. More subtle notes of ripe plum, warm vanilla with hints of bay leaf and rosemary. This wine is rich and mouth filling with powerful yet supple tannins. Flavors of ripe blackberry and currants are center stage with dark chocolate, vanilla, and toasty oak adding nuances and complexity to the palette. The bay leaf and dark brambly fruit shows the true expression of mountain fruit character. The wine will be released in time for this offer. With only 300 cases produced, this wine will sell out quickly.

 2010 Friedeman, Mt. Veeder  $100
A great discovery coming to our Mayacama list. Total case production for this 3 year old winery is only 700 cases and the Cab production is so small Mayacama is the only one selling this wine other than their mailing list. This wine is layered in refined complexity, swaying from juicy blueberry to herbaceous cherry and currant. Restrained in oak, with the slightest notion of vanilla on the palate, it finishes in mouthwatering dark chocolate. The tannins firm and structured.

2012 Skipstone Ranch, Oliver’s Blend, Alexander Valley  $120
Just released, the 2012 Oliver’s Blend is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in a 30-acre, amphitheater-like vineyard in Alexander Valley. The wine was fashioned by consultant Philippe Melka. There are 500 cases of this 2012, which was aged 18 months in 70% new French oak. It reveals notes of melted licorice, espresso roast, white chocolate, blackcurrant, licorice and a touch of toasty oak. Full-bodied and opulent with a pleasant earthy character (as is found in many Alexander Valley wines), it should drink well for 12-15+ years. This year we sold out of the Oliver’s Blend in 3 months. Robert Parker gives this wine 94 points.

2012 TOR, Napa Valley $85
The 2012 Napa Cabernet shows just how great this vintage was from a valley perspective. This is a blend of Mast Vineyard in Yountville, Melanson on Pritchard Hill, Tierra Roja in Oakville, and To Kalon in Oakville. The blending of these three different vineyards produced what is easily the best Napa Cabernet Tor has ever produced. The 2012 Napa Cabernet is immediately drinkable with silky sweet tannins and loads of red fruit. The wood, acidity and tannins are all in perfect balance so all you get is the great blackberry, cherry and sweet vanilla. I have only 5 cases left so this wine will be allocated.

2012 Vineyard 7&8 Correlation, Napa Valley $115
The wine is a reflection of the interplay between the two great properties. It showcases a classic 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with balance, purity and opulence. "The impressive, full-bodied, multidimensional 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Correlation ratchets up the opacity of the color. It exhibits impressive blackberry and blueberry fruit, camphor and white flower characteristics."  Robert Parker gave this wine 93-95 points.

Two More Added Value

2010 Hundred Acre, Ark, Howell Mountain $299
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard literally explodes from the glass. Precise veins of minerality frame the fruit in this intense, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. Black cherries, violets, tar and graphite are all layered together beautifully. Hints of chocolate, mocha and sweet spices appear late. The 2010 Ark sits on the razors' edge of ripeness, as the Hundred Acre wines often do. At the same time, these wines have a way of developing notable complexity in bottle. There is a level of intensity matched by expressive inner perfume that is compelling. Note that the newer vintages are now over $400 so the 2010 is a steal. Robert Parker gave this wine 95-97 points.

2010 Hundred Acre, Kayli Morgan, Howell Mountain $299
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan (only 25% of the normal production or 250 cases were made) offers a remarkable suppleness and velvety character to the tannins. Despite being 100% Cabernet Sauvignon you would almost swear this was a Merlot-based wine from one of the finest vineyards in Pomerol given its lusciousness and appeal. This spectacular 2010 possesses abundant creamy creme de cassis notes intermixed with notions of mulberries and spicy oak and a broad, expansive, savory appeal with decent acidity as well as ripe tannin. As in nearly every vintage, this 2010 can be drunk early yet has the uncanny intensity and overall harmony to age effortlessly. Note that the newer vintages are now over $400 so the 2010 is also a steal. Robert Parker gave this wine 97 points.
