They’re Here! 2012 Tor Reds

Robert Parker says: "Tor Kenward continues to turn out a portfolio of wines with sensational quality. The longtime public relations guy at Beringer, he has decades of experience with some of the finest winemakers and vineyard sites in Napa and Sonoma. That thorough knowledge and expertise is admirably displayed in the following wines. This may be his best overall performance to date, although his 2011s were very successful for the vintage, and he produced many great 2010s as well."

I had the privilege and pleasure to attend Tor’s tasting of the 2012 wines at Ma(i)sonry in Yountville last fall and I can personally attest to the unbelievable quality of these wine. I am extremely excited to feature these wines. We received our largest allocation ever on these wines, but that does not mean that the supply is limitless. I do not expect these wines to last until the All Vintner Pour in May...maybe not even that long. Tor will pour the equally great 2013 Vintage at this year’s All Vintner Pour.

The 2012 Chardonnays will be released early February and they are every bit off the charts as the reds. An offer will follow. Wow!

2012 Tor Kenward Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon
Robert Parker: 96 points.
Robert Parker says: "One of my highest ratings goes to the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. Super sweet notes of white chocolate, crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, licorice and cedar wood along with baking spices soar from the glass of this first-growth look-alike from Tor Kenward. Everyone who uses this fabulous vineyard seems to create something extra special. With superb intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel and incredible purity, texture and depth, this classic from Napa should drink well for 20-25 years."

2012 Tor Kenward Cabernet Sauvignon, Cimarossa Vineyard

Robert Parker says: "The spectacular 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa Vineyard has exceeded my enthusiastic notes of last year. Its dense purple color is accompanied by notes of mulberries, spring flowers, toast, wet rocks, cassis and blackberries. With great intensity, a full-bodied, dramatic, voluptuous texture, superb purity and a fabulously long finish of 45-50 seconds, it should drink well for two decades."

2012 Tor Kenward Cabernet Sauvignon, Tierra Roja

Robert Parker says: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja Vineyard comes from a 4-acre Oakville parcel situated below the Dalla Valle vineyards in the eastern Vaca foothills. It exhibits an opaque purple color along with a gorgeous nose of loamy soil minerality interwoven with blackberry and crème de cassis fruit. Full-bodied with terrific richness and opulence, this is a great example from the tenderloin sector of Napa Valley. It should drink well young, yet last for 20-25 years."

Tor says this about this wine: "The 2012 Napa Cabernet shows just how great this vintage was from a valley perspective. This is a blend of Mast in Yountville, Melanson on Pritchard Hill, Tierra Roja in Oakville, and To Kalon in Oakville. The blending of these three different vineyards produced what is easily the best Napa Cabernet we have ever produced. The 2012 Napa Cabernet is immediately drinkable with silky sweet tannins and loads of red fruit. The wood, acidity and tannins are all in perfect balance so all you get is the great blackberry, cherry and sweet vanilla. This is the wine to drink while you wait for your designates to be at peak. Drink this between 2013 and 2020."

2012 Tor Kenward Proprietary Red Wine, Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard

Tor says this about this wine: "The 2012 To Kalon Red Wine is an amazing mix of California fruit with Bordeaux aromatics. The nose on this wine screams with pencil lead, bay leaf, truffles and rich black cherries. The palate shows wonderfully ripe blackberries, sweet raspberries, cured meats and tremendous length and texture as it coats the palate. This is a wine that will benefit tremendously with some decanting or opening and then drinking the next day and should age and improve gracefully in the cellar for at least 10 years, though should go on for decades."
