TOR Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Offer
Tor will donate 10% of all sales to the Fire Relief Fund for Mayacama Caddies and Employees.
“We make great wines simply because we love making them. Wine is irresistible, it is fun, and it is about sharing passion, good fortune and community.”
- Tor Kenward.
TOR exists today because of the relationships they’ve cultivated over decades with mentors, grape growers and friends. This is indisputable - Tor knows a great vineyard. Less is always more when it comes to bottling some of the best grapes on the planet. In the tussle between the will of nature and the winemaker, their work is staying out of the way.
All of Tor’s Cabernet Sauvignons have discounts built-in and are all under our normal markup...the best prices in the market.
As another special thank you, Tor is releasing the 2015 wines on this offer early for Mayacama Members. We expect to begin shipping in the middle of December.
THE WINES
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon - 96 - 100pts
Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. - #227, The Wine Advocate
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer to Kalon Vineyard also seems like a candidate that could reach a three-digit score given its extravagant blackberry and cassis fruit with incense and graphite.
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja - 94 - 96pts
Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. - #227, The Wine Advocate
For whatever reason, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja Vineyard will be a mid-90-point wine, but qualitatively will be largely no better than the great 2014, just more fruit, glycerin and fat.
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa Vineyard - 93+ pts
Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. - #227, The Wine Advocate
Another high-elevation site for Tor Kenward is his 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cimarossa Vineyard from a steep vineyard planted at a 2,100-foot elevation on Howell Mountain. This vineyard is often used in the Beringer Private Reserve program. This wine is one of the more backward of the 2014s, with high tannin, full body, loads of mulberry, graphite, licorice and blue and black fruits. It is rich and would probably benefit from several years of bottle age and keep for 25-30 years. Quantities are limited.
2014 Proprietary Red Black Magic - 99pts
Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. - #227, The Wine Advocate
One hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2014 Black Magic Proprietary Red is literally the best barrels in Tor’s red-wine cellar. This is a fabulous wine, as one might expect, with loads of black and blue fruits, sweet tannin, adequate acidity and an energy and concentration that are off the charts. This is a magnificent wine that can be drunk now, or cellared for another 25-30 years.
The 2015 Vintage will be available on a future offer.
2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard - 94pts
Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. - #227, The Wine Advocate
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Herb Lamb Vineyard comes from the lower hillsides of Howell Mountain. Tor Kenward uses the middle section of this vineyard that was earlier used by Ann Colgin for her Herb Lamb bottlings. This wine has always been noted by its blueberry component, touch of licorice and underbrush. This wine has all of that, medium to full body, beautiful acidity and loads of fruit. It is drinking well now and should continue to do so for 15-20 or more years.
The 2015 Vintage will be available on a future offer.
2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley - Not Yet Rated
Tor only makes a “Napa Valley” bottling when they feel that the sum of the parts are equally as brilliant as any one of our single vineyard wines. To get to that end, they taste and work with all of their vineyards – To Kalon, Melanson, Tierra Roja, Cimarossa, Herb Lamb, and Vine Hill Ranch – to find the right blend. In 2015 it is predominantly Cimarossa Vineyard and smaller percentages of the others.
The 2015 Napa Cabernet is a denser and perhaps a more complex wine than the 2014 due largely to the strength of the vintage. The palate is very full weight with a fantastic lift and intensity to the aromatics. This vintage is more slanted to the black fruit spectrum with less of the red fruits that were in the 2014. This is a fantastic introduction to both the 2015 vintage and TOR Cabernets.
