Founded in 1996, DuMOL is a vineyard focused producer of cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from distinctive vineyards in the extreme southwestern part of the Russian River Valley. They also grow and craft small-lot Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier from exceptional vineyard sites in Sonoma and Napa, expanding upon twenty-five years of winegrowing experience.

Through precise attention to detail in the vineyards and vintage-specific winegrowing and winemaking, we aim to create wines that highlight the purity of place. Their small team is dedicated to their portfolio of estate, leased, and grower-partner vineyards. DuMOL wines are released through limited allocations.

Big Changes at DuMOL

DuMOL founder, Kerry Murphy, a great wine ambassador and popular Mayacama Vintner Member, sold his winery and set his sights on the Island of Hawaii and the good life. He will remain the face of DuMOL at Mayacama for another year, representing the winery at our annual Vintner Pour. The new owners, trying to put their personal spin on winery, have re-branded the wines, and are now naming the varietals after the Vineyards from which they came. Winemaker Andy Smith is still at the helm of the production team and continues to make outstanding wines. To help Mayacama Members make an easier transition with the changes, we will continue to list the wines by both the old and new names.

2016 was an outstanding vintage for DuMOL. We are offering both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for our late August wine offer. We love to feature the wines of DuMOL and will continue to be big supporters of their wines.

2016 DuMOL • Chardonnay Wester Reach
The Wine Advocate 95+ Points // Opening with vibrant grapefruit, lemongrass and yuzu scents, the 2016 Chardonnay Wester Reach delivers compelling nuances of honeysuckle, orange peel, crushed rocks and fresh ginger on the nose with a waft of allspice. Medium-bodied with a tantalizing suggestion of creaminess to the texture, the palate gives energetic citrus and mineral layers with a racy backbone and long, spice-laced finish.

2016 DuMOL • Chardonnay Clare/ Hyde Vineyard
The Wine Advocate 95 Points // The 2016 Chardonnay Clare comes from the Hyde vineyard in Carneros, planted to Old Wente clone vines that are now over 20 years old. Ripe grapefruit, white peaches and lemon curd scents leap flamboyantly from the glass with wafts of orange blossoms, struck match, fresh ginger and coriander seed plus a touch of chalk dust. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with citrus and stone fruit layers with loads of spicy sparks and a beautiful satiny texture, finishing very long and mineral laced.

The Wine Advocate 95+ Points // The 2016 Chardonnay Isobel Charles Heintz Vineyard sings of fresh grapefruit, Bosc pears and honeyed peaches scents with sparks of lemon curd, chalk dust, mandarin peel and lime leaves notions. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers loads of citrus fruit and floral layers with a racy acid line and satiny texture, finishing on a lingering yeasty/toasty note.

The Wine Advocate 92 Points // Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Wester Reach sings of ripe black cherries, red plums, red currants and cranberry sauce with touches of violets, cinnamon stick, spearmint and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with tantalizing red and blackberry layers with a satiny texture and oodles of freshness, finishing long and earthy.

2016 DuMOL • Pinot Noir Aidan/ Windrose Vineyard
The Wine Advocate 93 Points // Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2016 Pinot Noir Aidan gives beautiful floral notions of violets and lavender over a core of black and red cherries, wild blueberries and mulberries plus wafts of underbrush and menthol. Medium-bodied it sports tons of red and blue fruits and a nice plush frame, finishing long and lively.

2016 DuMOL • Pinot Noir Connor/ Joy Road Vineyard
The Wine Advocate 92 Points // Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Connor (from Joy Road Vineyard) is scented of red cherry compote, raspberry leaves and baking spices with suggestions of faded roses, dusty soil and garrigue. Medium-bodied with great intensity on the palate, it gives bags of red berries and earthy layers with a chewy frame and an invigorating, perfumed finish.

2016 DuMOL • Pinot Noir Ryan/ Widdoe’s Vineyard
The Wine Advocate 94 Points // Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Ryan has notions of crushed black cherries, blackberries and black raspberries with touches of anise, fertile loam, truffles and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied with a firm frame of grainy tannins and bags of freshness, it finishes long with a firm, compelling grip.
