In continuing to showcase the outstanding 2021 vintage for Sonoma County Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this week’s Mayacama wine offer shines its light on the West Sonoma Coast and Wayfarer Vineyard.
Wayfarer Vineyard
Located in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, Wayfarer Vineyard is the vision seen through by acclaimed California vintner, Jayson Pahlmeyer. After nearly 30 years of producing highly rated Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley, Pahlmeyer became increasingly entranced by the wines of Burgundy. It was only natural that he began seeking out property fit to grow world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Around that same time, Dave and Dorothy Davis listed their 30-acre organic farm on California’s Sonoma Coast. Winemaker Helen Turley took notice of the property for sale, as it was just down the road from her famed Marcassin Vineyard. Turley not only understood the extraordinary character of fruit this land could yield, but she also knew that it was her good friend and fellow vintner Jayson Pahlmeyer who possessed the vision and tenacity needed to transform the rugged landscape into a world-class vineyard.
Jayson Pahlmeyer, Founder
When Pahlmeyer first visited the site, he took notice of specific key elements; the cool sea air tempering the brilliant sun, the Goldridge soil casting a dusty glow on the dirt road, and the weathered bones of wooden fences marking off the undulating fields – a thick forest of redwoods to the east and fog-blanketed bluffs to the west. Jayson instantly sensed that this secluded place held all the essential elements to produce exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Helen declared it destined to be “the La Tache of California,” as Jayson claimed the land for his own.
Wayfarer vineyard was planted by David Abreu in 2002 and, in 2005, Jayson started blending Wayfarer Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with fruit from Russian River vineyards and bottling it under the Pahlmeyer moniker. By 2012, the vineyard’s exceptional fruit presented an irrefutable case for a namesake label. With Jayson’s daughter, Cleo Pahlmeyer, at the helm, Wayfarer has grown to become one of more impressive labels producing wildly beautiful Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the true Sonoma Coast.

Today’s Mayacama wine offer provides members with access to four distinct Wayfarer wines. Their 2021 WF2 series (Pinot & Chardonnay) is an entry point to Wayfarers style and sense of place. A selection of barrels that don’t make it into the block designate bottlings, WF2 offers a superb snapshot into what you can expect from Wayfarers higher-end wines.
The 2021 Wayfarer Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir & Chardonnay are some of the most gorgeous varietal wines I have tasted from this region and this vintage. The Estate Pinot Noir is pure and focused with brightness and outstanding structure. It’s a powerhouse wine that does not overwhelm the palate. The Chardonnay is just as impressive with its juicy flavor profile and fabulous intensity of aromas.
It gives me great pleasure to offer these wines today, as I know you are going to fall in love with them just as I did.
As always please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding these wines.
Thank you for your continued support.
Cheers!
