We’re pleased to inform you that Ted Antonopoulos has been selected by the Northern California Section of the PGA of America as the recipient of their Golf Professional of the Year Award. The PGA Golf Professional of the Year Award is determined annually to honor the working PGA Professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA Professional. Originally suggested by Richard S. Tufts, former president of the United States Golf Association, the award embraces a wide range of services executed by the PGA Professional and is the highest annual honor bestowed upon a PGA Professional.
“I am humbled to be the recipient of this award. Being selected by one’s peers is certainly an honor. Yet I look at this as a “Club Award”. We’ve done so many great things for the game at Mayacama, and it is that of which I am most proud.” When asked to elaborate, Antonopoulos reflected on the Club’s first event … a fundraiser for the American Red Cross to support victims of 9-11. “Just one month after we opened, September 11 happened. Our club came together using golf as a vehicle and raised around $100,000. We followed suit and did something similar for victims of Hurricane Katrina. During our first two decades, as a partner with Sonoma County Children’s Charities, we have helped raise millions to various youth organizations in Sonoma County. And we have opened our Club to the USGA (2010 Men’s State Team Championship), the PAC-12 (Men’s 2021 PAC-12 Championship), the AGJA (Wyndham Cup), and countless other Golf Associations as a venue for their Championships. This is what good clubs do, which is why I feel that I can accept this award on behalf of all of us at Mayacama.”
Ted continues to serve the game and represent Mayacama as a PGA Rules Official at PGA TOUR, PGA of America, LPGA and USGA Championships. He has also mentored several of our own PGA Assistant Professionals who have become Head Golf Professionals at reputable clubs throughout the country. As our Honorary Professional, he continues to serve our Members as a Golf Instructor.
Ted’s achievement will be recognized by his peers in the Northern California Section at the Special Awards Ceremony and President's Dinner to be held on Sunday, December 4, where he will be joined by his wife Susie, daughter Amber and son-in-law Ernie. Please join us in congratulating Ted in being recognized as the NCPGA Golf Professional of the Year. |
