Mayacama at the US Senior Amateur

Mayacama was well represented at the 65th playing of the US Senior Amateur at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, North Carolina. In the field of 156 players were two of  Mayacama’s Champions Brady Exber and Ned Zachar. After two rounds of Stroke Play, both players played their way into the final 64 players who qualify for Match Play … Brady at +5 and Ned one back at +6. Both players had a bit of bad luck with the draw, having to fight rain for their back nine of round one. However they bounced back nicely and played their way in to Match Play.

In the first match, Ned played well but lost to Jerry Rose 2&1. Brady defeated Chris Hall 4 & 3 to advance to the round of 32. There he took on former Senior Amateur Champion Doug Hanzel, and after a great birdie on the difficult 18th, Brady won 1-up.  In the round of 16, Brady handled former US Amateur Champion Buddy Alexander, winning that match by a score of 3 & 2 and advanced to the quarter finals where he was to face last year’s Champion Jeff Wilson. Another hard fought match came down to the last hole before Wilson secured the match 1-up.

We’re proud of our two Seniors for their outstanding play by reaching the quarter finals two years in a row … Ned last year at Eugene Country Club and Brady this year at Old Chatham!
