When we launched last year's email offer for Dave Phinney's L'usine Pinot Noir collection, it was clear to me that this winemaker held a special place in the hearts of our Mayacama Membership. It was by and far one of the most successful offers of 2021. And for good reason. Phinney is producing some of the most alluring California wines being bottled right now.
Dave's Orin Swift brand has been his most celebrated project, garnering the attention of not just the wine consumer palate but also their enthusiasm for fine art and storytelling. The portfolio is just as well known for its creative and evocative expressions on the front of the bottle, as it is for the plush and finessed styling of the wine within.
(Dave Phinney)
Dave's passion for wine dates back to 1995 when he embarked on a journey to Florence, Italy, to spend a semester "studying." During that time, he was introduced to wine and how it's made. From there, he was hooked.
After graduating university a few years later, he started his first winery gig as a harvest worker for Robert Mondavi. From time spent at the legendary Oakville estate, he decided that he eventually wanted to go into business for himself.
In 1998, he founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father's middle name and Swift is his mother's maiden name. With two tons of Zinfandel and not much else, he spent the next decade making wine for others, as well as himself, and grew the company into an iconic wine house known for its uncompromising creativity.
Today, Orin Swift produces a wide range of blends from California's premier winegrowing sites, with a predominant focus on Napa Valley. Dave sets his sights on small lots of grapes while ensuring only fruit of the highest quality makes it into the final blend. Every wine in the portfolio, from the vineyard source to the distinct artwork adorning the label, offers a unique point of view while creating an impression that is sure to last.
This morning's Mayacama email offer is a compilation of Dave's most iconic Orin Swift wines. Each bottling tells a unique story, but together they paint a complete picture of the success this label has enjoyed.
In addition to bringing you access to this iconic lineup of wines, we have been given the green light to provide Mayacama members with special pricing that you will not find anywhere else. Each bottling will be offered at 10% below the suggested retail price. We will keep this offer open for 14 days, at which time that pricing will no longer be applicable, so stock up while you can.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions regarding the wines. Thank you for your support!
Cheers!
