Fisher Vineyards has been producing small lot Cabernet Sauvignon in Sonoma County and Napa Valley since 1973. For five decades now, the winery has remained family-owned and operated, with a focus on appellation wines as well as high quality single vineyard bottlings.
The operation was birthed when Fred Fisher, a Detroit native with a family history in the automotive industry, left his career behind and purchased an old cattle and sheep ranch near the summit of the Mayacamas. It was there that he and his wife Juelle planted a vineyard and established a winery.
Fisher Vineyards Lamb Vineyard
Fisher’s German grandfather was a builder of Napoleonic-style carriages who moved to the United States and transitioned to car bodies. Until 1988, every car built by General Motors was stamped with the slogan, “Body by Fisher.”
Today, the family business is very much about wine. With the initial planting of 20-acres on the forested 100-acre Mayacama Mountain Estate in Sonoma County, Fred and Juelle would establish a strong foothold in what was a fast-growing Northern California wine industry.
In 1975, Fisher Vineyards made their entry into Napa Valley with the founding of a 70-acre parcel on Simmons Creek’s alluvial fan in Calistoga. This site that straddles the Silverado Trail (just south of Auberge and Four Seasons), was divided into several distinct vineyard blocks that today include Coach Insignia, RCF Vineyard, and the iconic Lamb Vineyard.
Lamb Vineyard Vines
Lamb vineyard consists of 10-acres of Cabernet Sauvignon on the east side of the Silverado Trail. Contiguous to the famous Eisele Vineyard, Lamb is studded with large cobbles, as it was once a part of the Simmons Creek pathway. Named for Juelle’s maiden name, this vineyard was re-planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, followed by a subsequent planting in the mid-90s.
The vineyard has long been a source of great pride for the Fisher’s as it’s been known to yield small quantities of fruit that produce wine with a rare combination of rich concentrated flavors, velvet texture, and elegance that only gets better with age.
Today’s Mayacama wine offer celebrates Fisher Vineyards and its Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon with an exclusive vertical offering (2017, 2018, 2019 – 1 bottle from each vintage). We have also been given access to a limited number of Magnum bottlings which are available for individual purchase.
2017, 2018, 2019 Fisher Vineyards Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
As wine is known to age even better in large format bottlings, it was no surprise that at a recent Fisher Vineyards event, a 6-liter bottle of 1995 Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was my standout favorite that evening among many other classic Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings from other producers. I believe I was not alone in that sentiment.
The Fisher family are prized Mayacama Vintner Members and so it gives me great pleasure to present this offer today. All bottles are coming winery-direct with guaranteed provenance. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued support. Cheers!
